Churchill could have warned us about Pearl Harbour and didn’t.

Good Lord, how stupid can you be?

The reason the British and the French allied with Poland is due to Hitler’s history of breaking agreements. The entire point of the Munich agreement in October of 1938 was to settle the German border with Czechoslovakia.

Instead the Germans tuned around in March of 1939 and occupied the rest of the Czech Lands and turned Slovakia into a puppet state.

Hitler could not be trusted, he was never going to negotiate in good faith over the Polish Corridor or Danzig’s status. His goal was to dismember Poland, and he struck a deal with Stalin to do it. The British/French guarantee to the Poles was a last ditch attempt to stave off a War which Hitler was determined to start.

Golly, imagine that, Hitler and the Nazis had the right to attack Poland but the dastardly British got in the way by telling Hitler that it would mean war if he did.

Danzig was only the pretext. Hitler wanted to reclaim all lands not just from the Reich before WWI, he also considered any lands part of the former Austria-Hungary Empire as “German”.

Hitler invented the Sudetenland Crisis, to stop Czechoslovakia from becoming a base for British and French troops.

Britain was willing to pressure the Poles on Danzig, but it wouldn’t have mattered, Hitler already decided to go “all in” and take all of Poland, even if Danzig was returned to the Reich.

Plus there’s that little matter of the fact that Poland had 3 million Jews, Hitler no doubt wanted to get control over that population, and even though there was anti-semitism in Poland, and Jews were treated as second-class citizens there even before the war, that didn’t matter, Hitler wanted them at the very least as “hostages” when his ambitions ultimately expanded further East.
