I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the five hundred thirty seventh day of the war.
Day 537: Aug 14
Today there are a lot of updates from the Kherson region.
Here, after Ukrainians finally broke Russian resistance in front of Oleshky and established a powerful bridgehead, Ukrainians shifted their focus to the northern part of the region. The main goal of Ukrainian forces is to drive Russians away from the eastern bank of the river, gain as many footholds as possible, and set conditions for a much more comprehensive attack.
The first thing Ukrainians did was undermine Russian defensive capabilities on this section of the front line. Geolocated footage shows that there were huge explosions in Nova Kahovka. Later, Ukrainian military officials confirmed that Ukrainians had successfully destroyed a Russian command post. And this is extremely important because Russians are controlling from here the whole region.
Next, Ukrainians started targeting Russian reserves. By destroying Russian reserves, Ukrainians were making sure that Russians would not be able to react to unexpected developments and block Ukrainian advancement. Recently, Ukrainian reconnaissance drone operators detected that Russians were yet again using columns to move through the region. Ukrainians once again exploited this opportunity, tracked them down, and destroyed Russian reinforcements.
The next logical step became destroying Russian ammunition depots. The first target of the Ukrainian strike became an ammunition depot near Krynky. But the biggest strikes happened in Oleshky. Here Ukrainians destroyed 2 ammunition depots in just one strike. The explosion was much more powerful, indicating that Russians indeed lost tons of ammunition and equipment.
After that, Ukrainians evaluated the situation and identified a weak spot in the Russian defense, which turned out to be near Kozachi Laheri. Geolocated footage shows that Ukrainians tracked down and destroyed Russian reconnaissance teams that were operating in the region, significantly diminishing understanding of the situation in this sector. Ukrainian sources reported that Russians lost up to 17 troops killed in action, including a high-ranking officer.
In preparation for the ground operations, Ukrainians conducted intense artillery preparation on the Russian positions in and around the village, undermining the Russian defense. Finally, Ukrainians also unleashed their kamikaze drones to target whoever was still left in the trenches on the zero line.
Later at night, Ukrainians conducted an amphibious operation and assaulted Russian positions on the eastern bank of the river. Some sources reported that Ukrainians used 7 boats and 50 troops in total. This was enough to breach the primary line of defense and advance by up to 1 km within hours. Everything happened so quickly that the battalion commander did not understand where his forces disappeared. He went to check on them but got right into the Ukrainian trap. As it turned out, Ukrainians effectively jammed communication and swiftly captured not only Russian positions but also a lot of Russian soldiers, including the commander of the battalion.

There are those who want to believe that the alternate reality created in the Russian state news is real. The funny thing is, most of those people live outside Russia.
That’s an interesting graph. I tried taking it out to “10y”, but that doesn’t work. It may only be for subscribers. The 5 year chart however would indicate that German gas prices are indeed not at particularly problematic levels. Gas WAS very cheap in 2020*, but higher previously (not far off the present price). And I don’t recall predictions of doom when prices in 2021 went up to the level we now see (still declining) in 2023.
*Russian trolls and tools will commonly cherry pick that 2020 price as their basis for comparison. That’s very disingenuous, which is of course to be expected. I note the insult instead of a real answer to your post, though I must admit the admission of loss of IQ points to a simple data point is quite amusing!
One caveat: That graph does not indicate what volume of LNG is now being consumed in Germany, or its price, or if LNG is factored in already. LNG prices are certainly WAY down from summer 2022, and German imports are rising (and will continue to rise in coming years) swiftly.
Will be interesting to see how much these smuggled parts cost esp after ruble crash, black market stuff is already at a premium
Yup, all monetized. Quite in the same way that all people, poor and rich, have money.
Glad you noted this. The many YouTube channels on one side or another have different stances, and disagree as to much in this non-NATO war between thugs.
As to dueling YouTUbe videos, and per your earlier observation, the pro-Z content and their content creators are -- hands down -- the champs at raising money for themselves. Quite the cottage industry. Therefore confirmation bias decides which "Kaboom" daily salvo anyone thinks to hit some mark. And click. Donate, subscribe, be a sponsor, buy a t-shirt. Or book. Self-promotion all around. And dare not disagree.
My attention was first drawn to the Free Republic 'game' by only two daily threads, as a number of behaviors were observable, quite distinct from all the other posts and threads and comments. While you know this, clever fellow you, I detail for others:
1) Both threads involve clear pro-Z stances;The above points are most particular. They are not found in any other Freeper thread over these last months.2) Both threads' participants employ name calling in one way or another to paint any disagreement --- let's call it 'dissent,' per your observation about Belarus in your comment to me -- as pro-P, when there are third and more stances;
3) Both threads have for many months begun with a specific and constant first reference;
4) Both threads shows multiple comments by the originator of the thread, numbering in the tens and more sometimes;
5) Both threads have a small "cast of characters" as regulars, daily taking up the same call;
6) Both threads have shown "Comment # -- Removed by Moderator", but this one is the champ in this behavior;
7) Both threads have repeatedly trotted out Forum rules as a "helpful hint" and the like, but only in part;
8) And both threads have assiduously ignored Robinson's acknowledgment that there is "a difference of opinion whether or not the US government should be involved in a controversial foreign war where we were not attacked," such that reviewing the last month my repeating this text seems quite singular;
9) Both threads seem not to be convincing any new readers to their "cause";
10) Both threads ignore the rapidly growing US debt, as of this day about $32,702,760,234,623, as if money for Z or any other "strategic" effort worldwide is a small matter.
Clever fellow you, as I noted, you already know this. So the ensuing argumentation between us is "just for fun," I would think. And from you, I take it as such.
As to the operators of these two very anomalous threads, far outside the general behavior of Freepers, there is something consistent, far beyond merely being pro-Z. I think it to do with that "cottage" industry and, as we both see, promotion pays.
What doesn't pay, obviously costs. For the US -- where you say you do not reside -- that cost grows precipitously. Thereby is this nation further weakened.
I can’t find any of those quotes or their sources.
“The pro-Z content and their content creators are — hands down — the champs at raising money for themselves. “
Because, of course, they are much more popular. Globally, I believe. This reflects the general public opinion in re Ukraine vs Russia.
As for FR, you misunderstand. FR is a niche place of no consequence in the general public discourse. There is a trivial amount of real-world value in it, either in money or influence. We are all just hobbyists, using FR mainly out of habit, out of long residence here.
There may be some professional Russian participants, and I suspect several, but they are barking up the wrong tree. Maybe its because their employers have old leftover accounts from when FR was much more influential.
As for the consistent partisans in this matter, both sides are largely the same groups of people.
--- "This reflects the general public opinion..."
So say all the finest marketeers. You need to read Sunstein on nudging, Chomsky on manufacturing consent, and a few others.
General Publick Opinion takes his marching orders from Lord High Marketing. I thought you knew that. Maybe you did.
--- "As for FR, you misunderstand. FR is a niche place of no consequence in the general public discourse."
I suspect that somewhat correct. Do you donate regularly to support this "niche place?" I have been.
--- "There may be some professional Russian participants," and Ukrainian participants too, I suggest. As "for the consistent partisans in this matter, both sides are largely the same groups of people," this is an agreement we find.
But as to the "professional Russian participants" of which you write, can you point me to their daily or even weekly threads which shows them active? And with similarities to the two we are currently discussing?
I am happy to have a jolly good "look see."
My point about the two threads and there similarities to each the other, and dissimilarity to all other "hobbyists" escaped so far your comment. Comment?

The Kremlin no longer feels safe for its ships in the Black Sea. Ukrainian sea drones hit several Russian ships and thus changed the security status of the entire region: the aggressor state no longer had the position of strength. This escalation is the result of Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Agreement. What awaits the region in the future?

The President of Ukraine visited Ukrainian Defenders in the Donetsk region, the front line command positions. ‘There is always an overall picture; there are reports on each direction, on each brigade. We talked about our offensive,’ – Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The offensive is very important, and all of the Ukrainian defenders must feel: they have a safe rear with people who support the defense of Ukraine.

Sunstein is marketing his fantasies, and Chomsky was trying to excuse the unpopularity of communism.
The best guide to popularity is sales, or views, or escaping across borders - voting with their feet. The Bud Light fiasco illustrates the limits of marketing very well.
The pro Russians really have very limited material to use. And what they have is not exactly something they can sell to a western audience. They are stuck with the product they are trying to move. The Russians and their government and their media (have you seen their talk shows?) and their actions are a very hard sell. Not simpatico.
Their war goals, for instance, are incomprehensible or repugnant. Blowing up cathedrals and apartment buildings and wheat - go market that sort of optics. All they can sell is doubt.
The Ukrainians on their side are the plucky underdogs holding out against the hordes of the evil empire.
I do not understand your point, or implication, or intention.
'Nuff said. We're obviously done.
...for now. Tick tock.
German NG consumption dropped due to Russia's invasion followed by above average temperatures. The loss of imports from Russia was partially compensated by increased imports from other countries. As soon as Russia invaded, Germany immediately started moving away from Russian gas, and built a floating LNG terminal and made a long term deal for NG with Qatar.
In the short term for 2022 and 2023, German energy consumption and costs took a hit. Long term, they are working hard and fast to minimize the harm and recover (Russian Pravda leaves that part out).
An example of how Germany is working on their energy issues, and how Russian social media misrepresents them (posts #7 and #40), go to https://rp-online.de/, and search for "Marc Speiker" ("Marc", not "Mark"). Copy and paste the article texted into a online translator (direct link translation won't work in Google translate). Germany does have real issues with energy supply. They are working amazingly hard to stay on top of their energy issues.
