Michael Oher files lawsuit against the Tuohys - alleging he was 'tricked by them as he reveals he made NOTHING from The Blind Side'
Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | August 14, 2023 | Patrick Djordjevic

Former NFL star Michael Oher has sued the family popularized by acclaimed 2009 film, The Blind Side, alleging he was tricked into signing a document which made them conservators -- not his adoptive parents -- allowing them to profit off him.

Widespread belief was that Oher was indeed the adopted son of Sean and Leigh Anne Touhy, the latter of whom was played by Sandra Bullock in the Academy Award-winning role.

In 2004, while Oher was aged 18, he signed on to a petition which made them his conservators - and in other words, able to legally act upon business interests in his name.

According to the Daily Memphian, Sean Tuohy responded to Oher's allegations saying; ‘We are going to keep loving Michael.'

Oher b broke? First purchase was likely a multi million dollar house, with 30 years of payments $30,000 monthly. You can pay that bill for 7 years or so, then the money is gone. House gone, payments in the toilet, fancy cars, clothes, vacation, women... It was a great 10 years, now get a job.

He just found out about the document he signed with them this year. They told him he was being adopted when in fact it was a conservatorship.

He was lied to, found out this year what he actually signed back then and so he is suing. Good for him.

Man, that is a bummer. That is the movie that made me dislike Bullock less...

He was 16 when they took him in their house.

2 years helping in be NFL star, graduate, living expenses, a truck, etc still doesn’t amount to them making 309M off him, his story, without even giving him any money from the movie.

He was blind sided. So the sequel will be called The Blind Side 2: The Lawsuit Years

They dont seem llike greedy people.

In a movie deal like this lawyers would have been involved.
Especially the story of a living person who would have had rights

There's more to this story than is being told

If he blew through his NFL salary the way defensive linemen blew past him,
he’s got no money left.

That's it right there.   There is no story without him.   Why would they get him to sign a conservatorship after he was of age?

That is the definition of shenanigans.   We need to see the conservatorship document and find out why a Judge signed off on that.

I’m going to go on record as saying there is a woman involved.

I believe the movie grossed a total of $309M.

I have no idea how much the Tuohy’s received from that. It may have been a relatively small amount.

Does anyone know whether “conservatorship” is the same as “legal guardian”? As I recall from the movie, Michael Oher’s mother was alive when he started living with the Touhy’s. If the Touhy’s were his legal guardian, wouldn’t they have the right and responsibility to make decisions on Michael’s behalf until he gained majority status?

Half the story is his story, therefore he is entitled to half the money from the film that was slated to go to the family.

If it’s true he didn’t receive any compensation from the movie, that is disgusting.

He was a potential top recruit already when they took him in. And they steered him to their school, apparently. I’m sure their have been other cases like this in the recruiting wars they just didn’t make a movie about it.

I believe he signed after he turned 18, though. Both “sides” are most likely leaving out some details here. Time will tell.

Check the dates.   He was born in 1986, started living with them in 2004.   That means he was already eighteen when he started living with him.   The conservatorship was created to control him and release him from owning his own story.   Shenanigans!

"Tuohy and her husband once owned 115 fast food franchises of Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken."   Business people doing business.
