As most American school children used to know, the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell during the late 19th century. He formed a company, Bell Telephone, that expanded nationwide, based on private capital. It came to be a regulated monopoly (or, public utility) during the early 20th century. (I won’t speak to the innovations in phone service that resulted in the deregulation of long-distance and the break-up of “Ma Bell” into the “Baby Bells” for local phone service in the 11970s; or, the subsequent innovations of cell phones, voice over internet and other alternatives to landlines.)
Franklin D. Roosevelt came along after the development of phone service.. He had nothing to do with inventing the telephone, organizing a phone company, financing phone service, or even its transition to a regulated monopoly. All of this happened before Roosevelt.
But, now we have an idiot progressive socialist for President who makes up his own reality.
I recall watching FDR talking about the phone companies on his weekly Fireside Chats on the television.
