The owner of a Kia shot an accused car thief several times during a confrontation at a Texas apartment complex, San Antonio police told news outlets.
Officers responded to a 911 call from an apartment complex on the city’s northeast side at about 4 a.m. Aug. 10, police told KENS.
A resident spotted a man trying to break into his Kia, police told the station. The resident went outside, along with his girlfriend, to confront him, police told the outlet.
The accused thief ordered the man to bring him his car keys, which he had left in his apartment, police told KSAT.
The man told police that his girlfriend was being held at gunpoint, the outlet reported. Instead of getting his keys as the accused thief demanded, he grabbed a handgun, walked out onto his balcony and opened fire, police told the station.
Officers found the accused thief with three gunshot wounds, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition, WOAI reported.
Police are investigating the incident, the outlet reported. It’s unclear if the Kia owner will be facing any charges.

We need to go back to hanging “horse thieves”.
My dad knows competition shooters who can hit the X ring all day long. They’d have no problems making that shot with a handgun.
Yup. The apparent fack that the perp was holding the girl is going to really limit the available shots one could take. Guessing that the first hit made him drop the gal. If she was alert she would have gone limp and dropped. The next two shots should have adjusted his attitude. Note that he apparently didn’t run off demanding his rights. And note it doesn’t say the KIA owner only shot 3 times-—just that he hit the perp 3 times. No mention of whether the KIA was a backstop?
The headline is damning...but the story is exculpatory...
The hospitals will use all resources to save human garbage like this but will turn away a mother who doesn’t think children should be sexually mutilated or those who are not vaccinated.
Head shots save ammo.
“A good shot, man”
conclusively proving that nothing good comes from suppositories.
Most criminals ain’t that bright, which is why they are criminals.
A dead thief is a good thief. Hopefully “critical condition” becomes deceased soon. Thank the owner and give them a community service award.
Misleading headline. It should be more like “Gun owner shoots from apartment balcony, saves hostage from kidnapper.”
Oh, darn. He survived.
Wonder how his girlfriend feels about his open fire and devil take the hindmost philosophy?
If the perp was holding the woman at gun point, the shooting was more than justified.
Might have been a matter of not being able without endangering the gf.
My understanding of Texas law is that you can use deadly force to stop theft of your property.

After dark.
It’s San Antonio, which has been creeping to the dark side... could go either way. Thief had a gun which is a plus for the shooter.
I wouldn't care if the guy was trying to steal a Yugo.....it's mine. Throw in the hostage situation.....
