NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – The winning ticket in Tuesday’s $1.58 billion Mega Millions drawing was sold at a Publix in Neptune Beach.
The prize was the largest in Mega Millions history, and now everyone is just waiting for the winner to come forward.
Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing, and because the prize is more than $1 million -- much more -- it must be claimed in person at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee -- even if the person who bought the ticket is from out of state. If the winner wants the single-payment cash option, they must claim it within 60 days of the drawing.
In Florida, Lottery winners cannot remain anonymous, but because of the size of the prize, the winner’s name will be exempt from public disclosure for 90 days, unless the winner waives the exemption.

One would have to go incognito...never flashing any sign of money. Have to deal with ne’er do well family relations and acquaintances and the clamoring for easy money from you would be a problem.
Then ya’ gotta invest it somewhere. Banks only insure up to 250,000 dollars per official name on the account. Gonna be needed lots of banks. Other investments can be risky. One would be constantly barraged with crazy schemes from grifters, maybe even Hunter.
Diamond and platinum cell is an apt description.
Yeah, I wouldn’t even bother to bend over to pick up a lousy few hundred million.
👍
They can stay anonymous for ninety days.
That is plenty of time to move and leave their old life behind.
If they stay close to “friends” and family they are doomed.
My advice would be to move somewhere where everyone around them has more money than they do.
Now that you mention it, that’s true. When I play lotto I always buy mine at publix......we buy scratchers occasionally from different places....it seems like most of the winners we get are the ones we buy at publix. 🤔
I am looking to be adopted...
So interesting. Lol. Do they grt kickbacks?
See? They might have had a pretty good life - now they have to do this. Even if they were in bad straits, now they can’t trust anyone, since everyone will appear to be trying to play them for their money.
A lottery win is a curse.
“Someone’s life just got ruined”
There’s a lot of truth in that.....a fair share wind up in dire straits or some even dead.
The state of Florida highly recommends lottery winners accept free counciling in an effort to prepare them for what is to come.
I remember way back in the 90s a black female in a neighboring town hit for 7 million......1st mistake, giving an interview to a local TV station.
When asked what she was planning to do with the money she replied “ I’m going to buy a new double wide trailer and a Camaro”
A lot of people have very little grasp of just how money the now have and even less grasp of how to handle it.
1.5 BILLION?.......I imagine that would overwhelm just about anyone.
I do have a very wealthy (unfortunately somewhat distant) relative.
They live in a very secure gated community surrounded by folks wealthier than they are (Bill Gates has one of his homes there).
They are wonderful very modest folks—never never never discuss money—with anyone.
If you met them you would have no clue they are wealthy—they drive mid-range vehicles, wear mid-range clothes etc.
It can be done—but like any skill it has to be learned and then practiced.
Their passion is (modern) art—and that is where much of their wealth is spent. Their home looks like a museum.
Yes, for somebody that wins that kind of money, it most definitely might be a curse. For one thing, every Tom, Dick, and Harriet is going to come out of the woodwork asking for money, provided that they cannot remain anonymous by state law. And they better not let anybody around them know that theyve won. If they have family, they’d better be willing to protect them too, because I can just see some evil person kidnapping children or grandchildren and demanding massive payments...or else they go bye bye.
“kickbacks?”
I remember the sales pitch for bring the lottery to Florida: “all profits will be put directly back into the Florida education system, all school budget issues will be solved!”........BULL5H!T
So kickbacks to a grocery store?......I wouldn’t doubt it a bit. 😏
Neptune Beach......my wife said it’s probably some rich people that already have a house right on the beach. Lol!
It is likely some retired 70+ year old person.

Not likely to take the 30 year option then.
I’ve been there a few times. My brother was City Manager there for a while

Call a lawyer immediately! You may be entitled to some of that money.
That’s way too much money 💰
wonder if the ticket purchaser is legal?
Yep!
750,000,000 would barely get a decent mega yacht...
Those two numbers show up everywhere.
