A few years back when bushels were skyrocketing around DelMarVa, A friend had a number of "clients" from the Eastern Shore sending vans down to the Pamlico Sound in NC every morning to pick up fresh blue crabs at a much more reasonable cost. Of course, they were being advertised as Maryland's Famous Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs.
Haha, and many customers also believe their steamed crab bushels were seasoned with Old Bay...
On the subject, at a restaurant in Hatteras, I ordered “Maryland Crab Cakes”. They missed the mark by at least 5 miles
