The Irish in Jamaica were there as labor more than overseer or slave owner. Cromwell sent some 2,000 Irish children to Jamaica as slaves in 1656. Adult Irish were later sent as indentured laborers. Cromwell had a system called the Western Design.
Roughly 25% of Jamaicans, including Bob Marley, can claim Irish ancestors.
