U.S. U.S. Border Patrol agents discover 7 "critically endangered" spider monkeys huddled inside migrant's backpack BY STEPHEN SMITH

U.S. Border Patrol agents made a surprising discovery last weekend when they arrested a migrant carrying a backpack filled with seven spider monkeys, federal authorities said.
Agents found the monkeys on Sunday when a Mexican juvenile was apprehended in Brownsville, Texas, which is on the U.S.-Mexico border, officials said in a statement. The Border Patrol's Rio Grande Valley Sector posted a video on Facebook showing the monkeys huddled inside a bag that appeared to have holes in it to allow the animals to breathe.
"Extremely proud of our agents for stopping this wildlife smuggling attempt of these critically endangered animals!" the Facebook post reads.

Please don’t release the spider monkeys into Florida. The pythons and giant African snails will kill them.
I don’t think that the author is well-informed about spider monkeys. There are seven species. Only one is listed as “critically endangered”. Five are listed as “endangered” and one as “vulnerable”. The link in the article is to a critically endangered subspecies, but there is no evidence that this is the taxon associated with this incident.

If the left doesn’t care about child smuggling, maybe smuggling endangered species will pull their heart strings.
