“I know we all have got our doubts about the last election. I want to assure you that I share the concerns of millions of Americans about voting irregularities. I promise you, come this Wednesday, we will have our day in Congress! We'll hear the objections. We'll hear the evidence.”
— Pence, 01/04/2021
I've been thinking about this quote from Pence...
Actually, President Trump can make the very credible claim that it was actually this quote from Pence that incited the riot, and not Trump's January 6 speech.
Trump can claim that nobody knew what he was going to say until he started speaking on January 6.
However, two days before the speech Pence set the expectation "We will have our day in Congress" and gave trouble-makers a two-day lead time to organize and travel to DC.
President Trump can show that on January 6 he implored the crowd to go peacefully to the Capitol and show their numbers. That was an extemporaneous comment made to a already peaceful gathering.
But it was Mike Pence's quote that made the "promise" to personally do something about it in two days ("We'll hear the objections. We'll hear the evidence"). I'm saying that it was Mike Pence who galvanized the people to riot at the Capitol, not Donald Trump.

That’s excellent thinking.
Interesting.
I think he knows that his political career is over. However,it’s easy to imagine him getting a huge book deal...if he takes the right course.
Mike Pence isn’t concerned about Americans
As we all saw him say
(for the thread)
He implored peaceful once. He also said “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators, and congressmen and women,” We’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.”
Brilliant post. +1
But besides Pence’s statement, there are plenty of Dems who have also publicly questioned the legitimacy of elections and not one of them was charged with anything.
The riot only helped the Democrats. Congress clarifying the role of a VP during the electoral vote count later in 2021 is an admission the role had latitude which means Trump was justified and arguing that point. Then there's Pence comments about "voting irregularities" and "I promise you, come this Wednesday, we will have our day in Congress! We'll hear the objections. We'll hear the evidence.”
And yet Pence punted, the challenges didn't get a fair hearing, there was no commission empaneled to review the arguments, nothing was sent back to the challenged states. The riot provided cover for Pence, Joe & company while the Democrats got their PR victory.
Trump would only get his chance if J6 had stayed orderly.
Good find.
Pence is a diseased rat.
Wow, this is EXCELLENT, Political Junkie.
Based on what Pence actually publicly said on January 4th, about how “we will have our Day in Congress on Wednesday” and “hearing the objections” about “election irregularities”.
So yes, you could argue that Pence himself was the one who incited the January 6th “riots”.
Brilliant way of exposing the Pence fraud and a way for Trump’s lawyers to refute Pence’s claims. Even Pence was alarmed at election fraud — he said so two days before January 6th in a public speech.
