That’s relieving news.
City lawmakers are aiming to solve an all-too-common problem of not knowing where to go when you’ve got to go — which plagues tourists and locals alike — with a bill to add thousands of new thrones to the Big Apple within the next 12 years.
If passed, the plan introduced by Brooklyn Councilmember Sandy Nurse on Thursday would amend the city’s charter and require the government to build a four-year plan of “establishing and maintaining a public bathroom network,” Hell Gate NYC reported.
“This is really an issue of equity and justice. It’s been a long time coming, and the City knows that we need to be doing this,” Nurse, 39, told the outlet.

One could change the name of the city to Flushing, except that there already is a Flushing in NY.
OTOH, instead of being the Big Apple, the symbol could be Toto. (No, not the dog, and not the band.)
NYC tried public porta potties, in the 2000s I think. They became magnets for drug deals and prostitution.
For some naive reason I thought the headline at first was about sights to see for tourists but I suppose public washrooms might fit that as well.
I’ll confess I’ve entered a McDonald’s or two with no plans to buy food.
“This is really an issue of equity and justice. “
Leftist BS. Run from anyone who uses the phrase: “equity and justice”. Those “facilities” will be used for queer sex encounters and drug use more than anything else. They will undoubtedly cost a fortune and will ultimately be deemed racist. There used to be public pissers on nearly every street corner in Paris. No big deal, just a metal spiral with a trough and drain. Passersby could see the user’s feet. Didn’t cost much. No monkey business.
OK, so they are not going to take 4 years to build restrooms. they are not going to plan for 4 years to build restrooms. They are going to take the next 4 years to “build” a plan that according to the article will take an additional 8 years to build restrooms (since the article said in the next 12 years). So they already know up front that it will take 4 years to “build a plan” and after building a plan for 4 years, the best they can hope for is that the plan will provide the framework to build enough toilets in the following 8 years. Wonder how long it would take to build the toilets if they didn’t meticuously build a plan for 4 years prior to starting to build the toilets.
Have they opened city hall bathrooms for public use?
for as much money as folks spend in NYC they should have more restrooms.
Waikiki is another city that has few public restrooms.
Up until the 1960s, every IRT subway station had rest rooms. Guess why they had to close them.
When ya’ gotta go. ya’ gotta go. On a positve note, no
toilet tissue need be supplied. The public carries with
them all that is needed... in their wallets. (otherwise
known as the US dollar)
There are so few public toilets because they quickly become hiding places for every type of illicit activity. Within minutes someone will be shooting up, smoking, murdering, sleeping or engaging in sex.
They will be trashed within seconds. This being New York, offenders will not be arrested.
Most of the busier subway stations still have public restrooms but they were shut down over 50 years ago for those very reasons.
Open up the Mayors office.
Who’s going to clean them and ensure the safety of those using them?
Toilet police?
Already tried in SF 20 years ago.
Failed.
Already tried in SF 20 years ago.
Failed.
No, no, not until the ones who proposed this have skimmed it to the bottom. That is the result (& purpose) of every similar plan out here in CaCaLand.
I'm so sure, lol, those will be safe, clean and properly maintained."
