In the case of the World Cup, literally everyone around the world is watching, perhaps not in record numbers but with 32 teams from all over the world in the tournament, the games are on TV all over the world
Of the 32 teams in the tournament only one team has players not singing their country’s national anthem and that has a lot of people upset

No, but you do see people standing with their hand over their heart. They don’t do that either. Their body language is that of ambivalence to the anthem. This is the U.S. National team. They are suppose to represent the country. They don’t, they seem to despise the country. So I hope thy lose.

Yeah, I think it's us that is getting played here. I guess I'll have to watch Kelly's video. But here is the (gasp) offence: "The majority of the defending champions' line-up has refused to sing the anthem in their group stage matches against Vietnam, The Netherlands, and Portugal."
There is no shortage of stuff to get all worked up about. We have one soccer team, not a left and a right team. Have you noticed that we now seem to have left and right movies? Left and right products, even with UPC code reading apps to tell us what to do? Left and right stores? On and on. Not that there hasn't always been, but now every movie, every product, every company, every retail outlet has to become affiliated somehow. This is poisonous IMO.
Anyway, good question. I've been following this story and still haven't seen anything that has raised my ire. Even if there are a couple of fools, I'll support our team. I'm tired of being told what to do and mindlessly complying.
I don't see the issue either, not in the least. Is singing the anthem some kind of tradition or something just in women's soccer? I don't get it. Which to me brings up the bigger question.
If not singing the anthem isn't the issue, then what exactly is at issue here? I'm becoming concerned more and more about the automatic "patriotism" towards one of the other of our two-party system. Oh yes, complete with "traitors", etc. Can't you tell? That's the US National Democratic Soccer Team. But I don't even think that is the issue. It has to go higher than that since our parties are run by idiots. We are being so played.
