The Christmas windows at Kaufmann's were a wonderful part of the Downtown Pittsburgh holiday season in 2001 when we shot this segment for our documentary called HAPPY HOLIDAYS IN PITTSBURGH

If it’s anything like the Christmas windows from A Christmas Story, I pity the person tasked with cleaning them.
I am from the South or Southwest. Dallas and OKC were always our big cities. We lived out in the hinterlands and seldom went there and certainly not at Christmas. A trip to the city was a big deal and needed a very good reason.
In the early 90s I had reason to be in Cleveland at Christmastime. The weather was chilly with spitting snow, something we seldom saw back home at that time of year. The mood was festive similar to “A Christmas Story” and the windows were decorated in so many stores downtown. It was a sight to see for a country boy.

I used to love listening to those morning KDKA AM radio broadcasts around Christmas, where Jack Bogut and others would be hawking Farkelberry Tarts for Childrens' Hospital.
Good times.
My favorite Mr. Bean. Steals that huge Christmas tree. Gets a turkey stuck on his head.
Those were the days, my FRiend.
Ah yes! I remember taking our son (who is now 40!) into Pittsburgh to see the Christmas windows when he was just four or five.
Mine too!
I can’t count the times when we’d say.....
“Meet you under the clock.”
