The US Women's soccer team once again hit the headlines at the World Cup as they remained silent during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner ahead of their match against Portugal.
The defending champions were accused of disrespect ahead of their 2023 World Cup opener against Vietnam when six of 11 US players stayed silent and did not put their hands over their hearts during the anthem.

It must kill them to be announced as the US Women’s soccer team , a team like is just there for money
When you're on the national team, you do not get to be disrespectful.
Colin Kaepernick played for San Francisco. So that's a different story. But he's out of the league now.
Yeah, I can’t imagine bigger snoozer than women’s soccer.
Well, may their already dismal fangroup shrink to hardly anything in the following year or so!
America-hating perverts.
Ok, if it’s some sort of smart-assed subtle protest, then yeah, f those dykes.
Exactly. They're not representing USA even if Joe Biden said they are.
Notice this is not a problem with the Men's national team.
Exactly. “I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to my death your right to say it” I always hated that self-sanctimonious statement. Screw them. Not literally (shudder).
Everyone seemed to be focused on the lack of singing and that’s what I didn’t get. I’m not watching so I’m not seeing the nuances that viewers are.
There is not much history of US athletes or spectators singing the national anthem because the tradition here is to have a performer singing it. Almost everywhere else the tradition is for a band (or recording) to play the music and the crowd and players to sing.
Having been in an Irish stadium with the crowd singing and watching a French crowd belting out La Marseillaise I prefer the foreign way of doing it rather than have some performer putting on their over the top spin on the Star Spangled Banner.
They’d win if they had a bunch of fake women trannies on the team.
They'll be fine if they raised their right arms over their hearts. But they're not doing that. You can see their facial expressions that they are not happy to represent the United States of America.
You did it for the promise of those after you, great love of country, and sacrifice itself. Recognition and honor is great but in my opinion that is not why you served, if I should be so bold to say and very Christ like.
Remember - Romans 5:8 - But God commendeth his charity towards us; because when as yet we were sinners, according to the time, Christ died for us; much more therefore, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from wrath through him.
They belong to the streets.
I looked it up: you missed nothing, twice.
Hope they loose
The maritime college in Maine has two sports: women’s volleyball and basketball. Both teams draw pretty good crowds, they are D-3 teams and from time to time are conference champions. None of the members from either team has ever taken a knee during the national anthem. If they did the head coach would kick them off the team no matter how good she was.
No they don’t. If they hate America - LEAVE and stop claimimg they rrpreseny us.
Singing was never “required” but usually done in respect. I would like to see the practice returned with the National Anthem sung by all present at every ball game, concert and assembly.
