[Postal worker robbed of keys at San Francisco post office; $50K reward offered (7-12-23)]

Ooh, a Federal Crime. An especially brilliant move!

Thieves use the keys to open outside Post Office boxes and take mail with checks in them. They either make copies of the checks with the same routing and account numbers or “wash” the writing off the checks and put in new payee information and check amounts. There have been 5 incidents of this in my small town alone. Ask me how I know. Don’t put mail with checks in them in your mailbox for the mailman to pick up or in the mailbox outside the Post Office. Put them in the slot inside the Post Office lobby or hand them to the clerk. Filling out the checks using a pen with “gel ink” makes them harder to wash.

This will actually get investigated.

there are even odds that they will catch whoever did this too.

Someone has 50,000 reasons to pass on some information.
