All baserunners score.
"Intent" is irrelevant--if balls hits head, rule applies.
I was taught to crowd the plate. Move up in the box, crowd the plate. Get in the pitchers head. It’s called baseball. Only the stupid allow themselves to get hit in the head. That’s why we wore helmets.
Now the occasional flyer can hit your head. Intentional bean balls, chin music are part of the game.
Me too. They are trying to "pussify" baseball just like every other sport....
As I stated, the pitcher’s intent is irrelevant. All that matters is the result: if the ball hits the skull, the penalty is automatic.
I remember when that jackass pinch-hitter Jose Tabata dropped his heavily padded elbow right into an inside 2-2 pitch from Max Scherzer — Max had been perfect through 8-2/3 innings. June 2015. Tabata’s last game in the majors was five days later. What a loser.
…without a little chin music, baseball would be even more boring.
Talkin’ beanballs, not elbows.
It’s not your chin, is it.
If baseball is boring, there’s always Demolition Derby—I see they’re using model airplanes now.
The thread has been drifting and included discussion of hits-by-pitch generally.
Yep
The batter should get one base. Period. Stop changing the rules and get rid of faggot, blm and leftist supporters, then baseball will be good again.
If it were a rule everyone would be sticking their heads into the ball. The only way it might work is if no batting helmets are allowed.
No one gets deliberately beaned. There is already a rule forbidding a batter from failing to evade a pitch—the Don Drysdale rule.
Players being seriously injured by a pitch are extremely rare. There is a better chance of serious injury being hit by a line drive since the fielders aren't wearing helmets.
If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the batters box.
I'll bet you're also in favor of astroturf, the designated hitter, and computers calling balls and strikes.
You’re obviously not a baseball fan because if you were you’d know there hasn’t been anyone killed by a pitched ball in The Bigs in more than a century.
And you’re also obviously not a sports fan because if you were you’d know that in cricket, if the batsman gets hit by a bowled ball, it’s his own fault for getting in the ball’s way. Premier league cricket last had a batsman killed being struck by a bowled ball in 2014, and you don’t hear them clamoring for a silly rules change..
“[I]f you are looking for perfect safety you will do well to sit on a fence and watch the birds....” — Wilbur Wright
“The real result of a bean ball should be the pitcher has to stand in the batter’s box and take one himself”
That went away with the DH in baseball and softball or the extra player in some slow pitch softball. But getting nicked in SP softball doesn’t even award a base.
If the writer is talking about MLB he/she is not going to see a lot of purpose pitches at the skull. Pitching now is a series of 90 plus with movement and there is no reason to head hunt. Someone could get killed. And a majority of today’s pitchers don’t have the control they need to be out there but chicks dig the mid 90’s up whether they can throw it for strikes or not.
Going up and in for a reason to get even is something done in kids games because the media has painted it that way at the MLB level to sell tickets. And the kids get the wrong idea. If there’s going to be a get even pitch in pro baseball, they throw at ankles or backs, not heads. Pitches get away. So which ones are on purpose in pro baseball when you are working with a guy from a third world country throwing at the century mark with the mind of a pro wrestler?

Then if beanings are rare, my remedy also will be rare.
The pitch was low and inside.
The bat throw was a strike. LOL
Oh good. Now you too are qualified to the the senator from PA
Being an official at the higher of highest level in theee sports I have become impressed at how great athletes can literally move in ways to thwart the system. I have zero doubt that a major league pitcher hirs the spot he throws at. If someone get plunked on the head it probably was intentional. But I also have no doubt that so batter would find a way to take one on the noggin a la happy Gilmore in the batting cage to book four bases.
My question — did someone get decapitated today that brings this subject up?
