A bipartisan group of lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee say a high-profile hearing on UFOs is just the start of their push for answers.
And they are threatening to use heavier handed tactics if the Pentagon and intelligence agencies stand in their way.
Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) and Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) want more information on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) — commonly referred to as UFOs — beginning with new laws, a classified hearing and the possible creation of a select committee.
The lawmakers said they are willing to use subpoena power if needed to get the answers they’re seeking from the federal government.
“If there’s not a cover up, the government and the Pentagon are sure spending a lot of resources to stop us from studying it,” Burchett told The Hill.
[...]
To get the information from Grusch — who said he was unable to discuss specifics on what he told the Pentagon’s watchdog arm — lawmakers want to sit down with the former official in a sensitive compartmented information facility (SCIF) to get additional information from him.
The group has been blocked, however, by officials that have informed them that Grusch doesn’t currently have security clearance to discuss the issues in a SCIF, according to Burchett.
[...]
Burchett also made an attempt to put an amendment into a Federal Aviation Administration bill to improve air travel, passed July 20, that would have required UAP sightings be reported to Congress. The initiative was blocked, which Luna said was an indication that “we clearly have a battle ahead of us.”
Another avenue for lawmakers should they not receive access to a SCIF would be invoking the Holman rule.
During Wednesday’s hearing Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) vowed to do just that, saying that he would “personally volunteer to initiate the Holman rule against any personnel, or any program, or any agency that denies access to Congress.”
The Holman rule is a House power through which they can strip the salary of a specific government position, fire civil servants or cut a particular program.

Harry Reid cackles in Hell.
“If the Deep State is identified, which will happen with disclosure, virtually all of the items you listed can probably be brought under control quickly. “
This is just Q 2.0.
Magical thinking that when “the truth is revealed”... something... something... something... the American Republic is Restored.
Think about it deeper... Free energy would directly cure all those problems from the base up. There would be very little to fight about, especially resources. And very little that can be used by the greedy to extort.
I think the JFK coverup is a unique case—I have posted at length on that topic and don’t want to go there here.
This is about Congressional authority and oversight—and there have been enough whistleblowers giving briefings behind closed doors to convince Congress-critters of both parties that they have been played as fools for decades.
Congress is often slow to move but they have a very short temper when they are certain they are being lied to by many previous witnesses.
One the back of this alternate governance is broken, I think a lot of issues will be illuminated and then solvable. The black money is what drives the drug trade, and probably also child trafficking, and so on. I think these “dark projects” and those individuals in them are central to this Nation’s collapse. That is why they try so hard to derail disclosure.
The “magical thinking” is the belief that if we let the Deep State run things forever that everything will turn out just fine.
OK, you lay out the solutions to everything. Let us evaluate your brainchild. You have yet to bring anything to the table.
The issues are going to be tough to fix—but impossible to fix if the Deep State remains in power.
The perfect is the enemy of the good.
This Regime is going to collapse under the weight of its own incompetence, corruption and futility.
What Repub Congressmen should be working on is helping the Red States they represent fortify themselves against a DC collapse.
Not wasting time on fake nonsense that doesn’t even solve anything if it is true.
You are not discussing the topics of the post. You are discussing our interest in those topics. You seem like a parrot, brobably a government shill meant to discourage meaningful discourse.
On the immunity and secrecy topic.
The witnesses can talk to Congress in closed sessions if Congress authorizes them to do so.
However, Congress does not have the direct power to declassify anything.
I say direct because they can set guidelines for declassification—in fact those guidelines have been proposed as an amendment to the upcoming Defense Authorization Bill for this year.
When those were discussed in a thread a couple of weeks ago a chorus of Freepers yelled “squirrel”.
;-)
“You are making us discuss validation of why we are interested in this topic. I already told you, we are so interested “
What I said is that US Congressmen should not waste time on this nonsense.
Retirees on FR - knock youselves out !
“Retirees on FR - knock yourselves out !”
Thanks for your support!

I'm really starting to think that all of the other news is the official distraction.
They do our bidding, for a change.
[UFO-curious lawmakers brace for a fight over government secrets}
Wasn’t that a movie years ago, “I Am Curious (UFO)” ?
“Maybe you could tell us what you think will happen should this turn out to disclose new energy sources,”
If it will lower the cost of living for the American people, the EPA would prohibit it.
This Regime is the problem, and needs to go.
Spacemen and their magic energy sources don’t solve the problem.
In fact, if this stuff existed, hte Deep State would use it to increase their power and control over the American people.
Frankly, the incompetence and futility of the Deep State show that there is no hidden magical extraterestrial technology. Just the decay of a failing Republic.
I think it would be a major step in the right direction even if congressmen could not initially release their knowledge to the public. At the very least, it would light a fire under them to regain control of the secret programs. They would also know how to separate information that the public would like to know from that which they shouldn’t. That would provide a basis for revamping classification laws.
Do you think all of the observers throughout the last 80 years are lying? To what end? An individual has to have a very blackened soul in order to have that degree of cynicism.
This issue could be anything at this point, but it isn't "nothing". I want to know what it is. This planet belongs to me as much as it does to those who hold the secrets.
By the way, why are they fighting so hard to retain secrets if there aren't any?
Just one more topic since we are getting into the weeds a little bit.
I am convinced that almost all of the admirals and generals who are political appointees are out of the loop—so when they testify before Congress they can honestly say they don’t know anything.
However—something more is going on—and that is their total lack of curiosity (unlike Admiral Wilson in his day).
For example every military leader should have been able to figure out this book was out there:
https://www.amazon.com/UFOs-Nukes-Extraordinary-Encounters-Nuclear/dp/1544822197
However when Congress asks about the UFO and nuclear weapons topic they have been getting stonewalled.
You would think that somebody on their staff would have briefed them on this very well documented (just from public sources) history.
My take is they know there is a “house of horrors” and they do not want to know about it.
In the eyes of Congress this is willful misconduct. The political types are supposed to try to find out about misappropriation of funds, for example—at a minimum request an IG audit of the relevant issues.
In addition it is high comedy to claim you are interested in the national security but uninterested in the UFO and nukes issue.
It is one thing to be deceived by career employees and have no clue on the topic—it is another when you know or should have known you were being deceived—and intentionally chose to do nothing about it.
