“I thought the so g sucked then and it still sucks today.”
I live in a dyfferent world and wasn’t familiar with the song. I listened to some of it and read the words.
Songs are dramatizations. Many news reports are dramatizations. In these times I’m not interested in dramatizations of victimhood.
I like dramatizations of the opposite of victimhood but that’s just me.
I’m in my mid 50s, enjoying a solid middle class life with a wife and four kids.
I still listen to music.
Deductive reasoning...
There’s an online nerd fight over inductive vs deductive.
And she generously complimented him on his cover & its success. I finally heard his version & he did a beautiful job. Some people now only feel life when they can create strife, anger, & division. I’m happy for Tracey making money. It’s an absolutely beautiful & iconic song.
I thought “Fast Car” was quite boring at the time. Still not a big fan. Still can’t really understand what she’s saying so I was surprised to hear the title recently.
Prefer the new cover. Not saying much. (Also preferred “country” cover to original “Life is a Highway” which I swear I never heard back then.)
But have no problem Tracy Chapman gets royalties and is happy to have someone cover it.
She’s @ 2-hit wonder.
There’ve been quite a few of those, too. Often only credit for one hit while the other is forgotten. Spandau Ballet, Falco, e.g. (talking US only).
Since the kids grew up and moved away, I’ve really gotten back into music. Spotify is wonderful — no longer do I have have to buy an album to get one track. The talent in young people is fantastic.
Emily Yahr of the Washington Post... wrote: 'As Luke Combs's hit cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" dominates the country charts, it's bringing up some complicated emotions in fans and singers who know that Chapman, as a queer black woman, would have an almost zero chance at that achievement herself.' ...the fact that the original version is very clearly not a country song, and that Chapman is not a country artist, seems to have passed Yahr by entirely.
Whoops, forgot about that one. Okay, two-hit wonder.
““Fast Car” is just “Born To Run” from the girl’s perspective.”
Except Chapman can actually sing unlike a Bruce Springsteen. And while she could possibly be a horrible person in real life, we don’t really know because she doesn’t dazzle us with proof, unlike “The Boss” who is by all accounts a douchebag.
Yes, everyone hates “Born To Run”. It is not at all a popular or well-liked song by anyone, and the singer is universally vilified.
