The heat was hot and the ground was dry, but the air was full of sound.
It’s not normally kill cactus hot. You can tell, cause the cactus lived here first.

I never understood the logic of using asphalt in desert states (except perhaps higher elevations).
30 years ago I lived in Az. where the temp never got below 110 degrees for a month and no one or thing had any problems. Just stay hydrated and if you don’t know what that means, you deserve a trip to the hospital.
Yes the Cactus looks it’s time was up due to old age.
Those cacti are hundreds of years old, and didn’t die until now.
