US Women’s Soccer Team Is Incredibly Hard to Root For
New York Post ^ | July 27, 202 | Phil Mushnick

What happened? Who started it and why? When will it end? Will it ever end? Or is it over when it’s over for you, when you no longer can stomach it?

Why have the most influential forces in sports — TV execs, advertisers, the media and the top administrative authorities — determined that our sports be denuded of sports? Why have the conceited, vulgar and selfish — assorted creeps antithetical to sports — been given the keys to the kingdom? Even if it remains flabbergasting, it’s hardly a surprise that Fox and marketing geniuses seized upon the overwhelming disgust with Team Obnoxious, the 2019 U.S. Women’s World Cup Championship team — a literal turnoff among even the most willing and eager “USA! USA!” chanters — then repackaged it as the reason to again both watch and root for “our gals.”

Again, the excessive, me-first, all-about-me antics of vulgar Megan Rapinoe, wildly unpopular among her country’s right-minded populace, has been restored as someone everyone loves and admires. How could Fox, the exclusive U.S. rights holder, have missed what America saw so plainly as nauseating — even if President Biden bestowed the country’s highest civilian medal on her for reasons unknown? Was Biden’s selection committee particularly impressed with Rapinoe’s full-field, rub-it-in solo victory lap after scoring to make it 9-0 over Thailand in a 13-0 final? Or the way she used the F-word in addressing an NYC crowd that was loaded with kids?

I'll watch an EPL game or the cup tournament matches, but MLS? No. And women's soccer?! NO!

I don't disagree, though I was happy to see Messi come to MLS.

You won’t get an argument from me on that. A typical NFL game has 11-15 minutes of actual sports action embedded in a 3+ hour television broadcast.

Makes your typical soccer game seem like the frenetic final lap and the aftermath of the 1979 Daytona 500.

Actually, it's real football, not the fat-ball played in the NFL where they have ‘breathers’ after every down, mostly play in only one direction (few playing defense and offense) and have official time-outs and television time-outs. Real football (soccer) has no time outs, and many players play for 90 minutes - running most of the time. It's a tough sport. You will NEVER see a soccer player with their fat unhealthy gut hanging over their belt like you do routinely in the National Fat League.

Also, in America where pinheaded liberals think anything ‘European’ is superior to America, there are those a**h**es who only like soccer because it's not American. That's NOT how it is in the rest of the world. Soccer is BIG money, and is not taxpayer funded in the vast majority of the world.

Finally, as opposed to American sports, most soccer leagues in Europe have relegation. The three teams that finish last in the league are demoted to a lower league and lose money. They don't get ‘the top draft pick’ like the losing teams in the US. They essentially get kicked out of the league and have to fight like crazy to get promoted back up to the league. Some teams fight for decades to get back up.

“Dissing” football - soccer - is a sport in itself. The “Yo Momma” of sports.

Not my sport of choice to follow, but then I’d rather go for a walk or swim than watch overpaid imbiciles do some back-and-forth activities any day anyway.

OK, I still watch some Formula 1 races, which is also pretty much “meh!” these days...

They could play the Ted Bundy Serial Killers Team and I’d root for Ted
