It’s a common falsehood often said on Free Republic, that she disapproved of protecting girls sports.

She vetoed the original bill, because she had concerns that the state could be sued or sanctioned by the NCAA over participation in collegiate sports.
The bill she signed, had different language which according to her, met with her approval, as not inviting sanctions from the NCAA, so as not to affect South Dakota college sports.
