Car stereos? What we had was an in dash AM radio with an FM converter.
And Jensen 6X8 coaxial speakers in the rear. Was better than nothing. Barely.
“like” Matthew McConaughey? That’s a bit later,....
I rode a motorcycle to school until I had saved enough for a 69 Ford Fairlane.
My car was my high school locker as I never used the one assigned to me.
The ones who did not drive were lazies who never had a summer job.
*If you had a car/truck, you could buy beer.
1977
Did you ever see “Everybody Wants Some”, which was Linklater’s follow-up to Dazed and Confused?
I think she coined a phrase that sorta applies to that.
I’ve seen Slacker.
But not this. Not yet...

Ok, so who made “alright, alright, alright” famous in the 70’s?
McConaughey is the only one I can think of offhand, and he wasn’t from the 70’s.
Gawd, I hate Journey, with a passion. So overplayed.
I don’t understand the fascination with them.
They were better with Gregg Rolie as the singer.
It still blows me away that Neil Schon played with Santana when he was 17.
Oh my gosh. That’s why we worked so hard at the fast food joints, to upgrade our car stereos! Jensen was definitely the standard at the time. I remember buying some “Tancredo” 6x9’s that actually rocked for half the price.
Again probably more about 1980, but the focus of everyone was rock music first, and girlfriends second, if you could even get one. You usually had to be a jock to have one, and even then, only a few had a full time one.
The question was “will you ‘go’ with me?” If they said yes, it was usually good for a month or two at most LOL.
Starts on May 28, 1976, a Friday, the day I graduated high school. Nothing’s gonna touch you in these Golden Years......
“ Probably every student had a copy of “Frampton Comes Alive”.
And The Marshall Tucker Band, The Eagles Greatest Hits, Bob Seger
Have you seen the Journey Through Time out takes with Greg Rolie from a couple of years ago? I would say they are pretty awesome, especially with the drummer Dean Castronovo (sp?) singing the Steve Perry parts.

*** The question was “will you ‘go’ with me?” ***
LOL, yep. My parents wanted to know where we’d be going.
“I don’t know!”
“Well, why not? He asked if you’d go with him!”
Very true. You Can Tune a Piano was an excellent album. The ones after that, not so much. I never knew about them until my first Midwestern road trip to IN and WI in May 1978. Kiss was big back then, at least in the Northeast.
I will always hate them now. If I can borrow a phrase from today’s lingo, I’m “triggered” when I hear Journey, especially “Don’t stop believing”. Ugh.
I have my reasons, and they are legit. Anyone who has ever heard my story understands why I hate them with a passion.
Id this was the fall of 1977, my sister had an 8-track tape of Saturday Night Fever, and I had an 8-track of the Star Wars soundtrack (released in June)
I bet your Star Wars 8 track is worth something now. Maybe.
