Palm trees and fat checks … Justin’s got it made.
Superstar quarterback Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers have agreed on a massive five-year, $262.5 million contract extension, according to an official announcement from the franchise. The financial terms were reported by ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.
The news comes just a day before the Chargers begin training camp, and means that Los Angeles will keep their 25-year-old quarterback in Southern California through 2029. Herbert’s deal also features $133.7 million in guaranteed money, $193.7 million in injury guarantees and a no-trade clause.
Herbert is now the highest paid player in the NFL, with his $52.5 million salary being well over the second-place figure of $31.6 million — paid to Los Angeles Rams superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
The quarterback has compiled a 25-24 record (and a playoff defeat) in three seasons with the Chargers. Passing for 14,089 yards, Herbert has the most for a quarterback in their first three seasons in the NFL, and on top of that, he has 1,316 completed passes — also the most in NFL history for a QB in their first three years. His Total QBR of 64 is also ranked No. 4 in the National Football League since his rookie campaign in 2020, ESPN reported.
In other words, my man deserves the payday.
What else are you going to do if you’re the Los Angeles Chargers?
Give that man his money! And that they did.
Much deserved, Justin. Congratulations!
Yep.......but they ain’t gettin’ one thin dime from me, and haven’t for many many years.
I wouldn’t cry over it, but I know some fans would go into mourning......................
I didn’t start to play strictly for the gambling angle I did it because I want a good Microsoft Excel project
Over the last couple of years I’ve created a multi year spreadsheet for historical analysis and to help me pick teams weekly I gamble $5-10 dollars per week which is minuscule but I’ve a ton about Excel macros and some complicated formulas and scraping data to update my spreadsheet
Just another marker that we are the new Rome in late antiquity.
You code in VBA?
Of course.
I figured.
“some fans would go into mourning”
Yep.
If you haven’t already, see my post #21....I really believe it explains the phenomenon (at least in part) as to why pro sports, especially the nfl is as successful as they are.
The Roman promoters really did things right
They needed a show that would clearly excite
The attendance was sparse so they put on a fight
Threw the Christians to the lions, sold out every night
Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please
-The Kinks
I would not call what I do coding I usually look for examples that I can modify
I want to learn Python for the macros
There’s free Python courses on Coursera.
A local TV station of all things a couple of years ago was advertising on Facebook about the online training program they were selling for pennies on the dollar something like $25 for a package that normally costs hundreds
In a weak moment I bought an Excel package and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the training, most of the statistical analysis and pivot table examples I learned thru this training, in retirement I need technical projects to work on to stay motivated and to keep the mind focused
Comedy.
I’ve never been to a NFL game, although I did win a couple of tickets to a Jaguars game in 2002 from our local radio station, but declined to go as my Sister-in-law was dying of cancer in Jacksonville at that time.............
I thought the Chargers were in San Diego?
Sorry to hear that.......I don’t think your missing anything at nfl games......compared to the college game enviroment pro games are very controlled and as I refer to them “canned”.
Same music between plays, same commercials on the big screens.....same everything every game. Real cookie cutter IMO.
I’ve always found college football games to be way more entertaining.
They moved back to LA a couple of years ago...............
Hope for the Chargers’ sake that there’s a performance clause in that contract!
He must be putting butts in the seats!
And he barely has a winning record. Nowhere close to Mahomes talent.
