In the courthouse chambers, Finn and Steffy wait for the trial to begin. Finn says it shouldn’t be long now, and Steffy is hoping Sheila gets sent to prison for the rest of her life. She asks Finn how he’s doing given she’s his birth mother. He says it doesn’t matter and she needs to pay but can’t help but think about the embrace they shared.

I often think Tucker and Diane may be secretly plotting to take over Jabot and dump both Ashley and Jack in a huge, dramatic betrayal! But now that Kyle has left the company and is boinking Tucker’s ex-conspirator, maybe not.
I didn’t include Lily in my list of remaining POCs because her Pakistani genes seem most prominent in her looks, so I always think of her as Middle Eastern; but Wikipedia says her mother was part native American, part white and part black. Just sayin’.
The SORAS thing is indeed weird, but I have to admit, I rarely get overly interested in the storylines because there are so very many whoppers about how things actually work and assorted improbabilities, it would be embarrassing to get too invested—can’t even begin with the nonsense they want us to believe. In the 80s, before cable, I was confined to bedrest for a few months, and that’s when I got hooked on ATWT and Y&R—my tv only got 4 channels. After ATWT died, I watched B&B more often; but the writing is so bad you can skip it for weeks and hardly miss anything.
I would stop watching for years at a stretch, but now that I’m retired reading current events on FR every day, soaps remain interesting as an indicator of what the writers of these shows (that all started out aiming at traditional conservative housewives) believe their current diverse audience is interested in or will put up with, such as the mainstreaming of unmarried sex, female assertiveness, gay storylines, and so forth. You mentioned the absence of Rick Forrester for what—a decade now? I suspect that most of the soap audience was not yet ready for the full blown transgender storyline and probably flamed the comment boards. But I could be wrong.
Soaps do a public service when they tackle issues like alcoholism or the like. Yesterday Finn gave a brief PSA about swimming safety tied to the storyline. One small development I’ve noticed is that traditional soap women often told lies and manipulated in relationships. These days, there is more direct, egalitarian communication, especially between couples. The lying and manipulation is now more between enemies or frenemies, both business and social, or coming from soaps’ outcasts, from well-established liars like Victor or Phyllis, or from criminal villains.
Well, these convos have successfully filled my procrastination quotient for several days while the heat wave rolled through! Today it’s so nice out, my undone yard work is calling. Thanks for your interesting points of viewership, FRiends!
Dweebes, Liam and Finn are beside themselves.
Thanks for the news update— I can fast forward throiugh most of it tonight!
I can’t imagine why any red-blooded woman would want Liam in the first place... Finn at least has a soothing tone of voice.
Naah, Diane wouldn’t take the risk of conspiring with Tucker, since that would permanently destroy her relationship with her son.
Funny, the writers/producers almost treat Lily like she’s a White character. I forgot to mention regarding the clean-sweep out of the Hispanic characters (although Audra is obviously a Latina, her name and character is also treated like she is just another White), the actress that played the cheated-on ex of Kyle’s, Sasha Calle, got hired to play some superhero in the movies (although another example of a non-White being cast as a White character).
Yeah, besides the improbabilities and the like (Sheila’s “trial” in the judge’s chambers), the SORAS thing just is the added cherry on top for confusion and messed-up timelines and forced ret-cons.
Rick Forrester has been MIA since May 2018 (the presumption he is in Paris or Milan), and the last mention of him that his marriage to the tranny ended (and she vanished). They had a child with Maya’s sister, and she also has not been mentioned. You’d think they could’ve recast, but they haven’t. It makes no logical sense that his character wouldn’t have returned even once in all that time. The other ignored character, Ridge Jr (RJ), recently returned, aged and recast with someone in his early 20s. His presence there only serves to reinforce the very incestuous relationships of the Logan/Forrester kids (his half-brother Thomas banging his half-sister Hope). Sure, it’s not technically biologically incestuous, but given that they were all raised together, you’d have thought that might’ve been enough for the kids not wanting to get it on with their step-sibs (although don’t get me wrong, had I been Greg Brady, I’d have hit Marcia like the fist of an angry God. Did I say that aloud ?).
Lily has been a character for maybe 20 years. She always been mixed-race and although she usually ends up in relationships with white guys, my take is that the Y&R writers long ago decided not to portray racial tensions with any character. Neil was just one of the town’s business/personal friends and associates, as have been Devon, Nate and Elena. But in giving Lily mixed-race children when she was married to Cane, and same with Devon’s child Dominic, the producers are not erasing race—they’re accepting, and not making it divisive.
I thought the Audra actress was Iraeli at first—her accent is strange—didn’t register with me as Latina until I looked her up. The character had been in London, so I guess they made her a corporation exec/world citizen instead of an ethnicity-clinger like the Rosales clan from Miami. But it is possibly “whitewashing” that they gave her a European last name, unless it’s part of some yet-to-be revealed back story. I’m not fond of “user” characters, so she hasn’t yet won me over as an actress, as Mishael Morgan eventually did. Morgan was one of the most talented actresses on Y&R from the past decade.
ATWT produced big screen stars Meg Ryan, Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore, and a bunch of Hollywood B-listers and TV stars—Jordana Brewster, Billy Magnussen, Steven Weber, Ming-Na, Jason Biggs, Danny Pintauro, Tamara Tunie, plus lots of other soap players; and they used to have frequent cameos from established stars. As for Y&R and B&B — Braeden had a bit part in Titanic; can’t recall anyone else breaking out. But it does look like budgets have been severely cut.
Iraeli = Israeli
Well it looks like beotch Steffy has left Finn, Finn embraces his adoptive mother Li, and Sheila and Deacon have sex.
I could do without seeing graphic depictions of 62-year old Sheila schtupping almost 57-year old Deacon Sharpe. Blech.
You have a thing about age. Old folks (over 50, according to you) can still get it on!
I feel traumatized seeing such things. They should just take up knitting or something instead. ;-D
You must be rather young. Trust me, it keeps on going in healthy individuals! One of my friends said her mother recently complained that her father still wants it every day. He is 80.
Finn and Liam confront each other, Liam visits Steffy, yada, yada, yada.
It's funny I put up a thread last night about "Drath Vader"(typo on my part), killing Luke's Uncle Owen and Aunt Shermu.
Boy did I get the backstory, by the Star Wars geeks.
Nothing against "Star Wars" fans.
The Finn-Steffy-Liam thing demonstrates to me why you never get involved with a divorced woman with a kid with a strong emotional connection to her ex. Steffy should’ve never divorced Liam and Hope should’ve been with Thomas.
I’m a bit of a Star Wars fan, probably more when I was a kid, though haven’t seen some of the more recent films (mainly because I think they’re boring with banal villains). I never thought the aunt and uncle of Luke were compelling characters, anyhow, and their killing was just a plot device to get Luke to leave home.
It bothered me more from the sequel “prequels” that they took Anakin away, but left his poor mother as a slave under the thumb of a Middle Eastern/Jewish-stereotype bumblebee. A big flyswatter could’ve taken care of that and off they could go.
Wondering if the soaps are exempt from the writer's strike? Do you know, DallasBiff? Wouldn't mind seeing reruns again like during the pandemic, instead of this current drool.
One of the few characters I consistently enjoyed watching was Quinn. She did evil with style. Can't believe how they tanked her character.
No offense to Californians, home of many closet conservatives; but B&B's characters are so vapid, they often remind me of the soap opera satire on Saturday Night Live, "The Californians.", always a festival of superficiality.
I agree with you! I have always been positive about The Classy Exciting Rena Sopher {Quinn}!Since B & B dumped Quinn, she needs to go back to GH & reprise her exciting role as Lois which would be perfect timing since her ex Hubby has amnesia! !Also my Least favorite character on B & B is that plastic, botoxed, nauseating, boring privileged Steffy!
Pillow Lips!
Who knew Deacon Sharpe would turn out to be the best actor on the show?
Nah, I'm out for awhile. My lawn needs weeding.
Still watching Y&R, but they are on probation. It’s a shame. It would be better if they had them on once or twice a week but spent more on writing than trying to squeeze a good product out of the budget cuts.
