Is there any difference between a hate crime and a non hate crime? That would be difficult to hold up in court.

IIRC there are state laws...and,perhaps,Federal laws...that establish certain "protected" classes. For example,punch a 40 year old in the nose and you can get 6 months. Punch a 70 year old in the nose and you can get 5 years. Molest a 15 year old kid and you can get 10 years. Molest a 6 year old kid and you can get 20 years.

I have no problem with such laws. I do,however,have a big problem with the fact that punching a 40 year old black guy can get me twice as much time as punching a white guy. Ditto fags,moslems,etc,etc.
