Propane refills after a hurricane can takes weeks. Also, propane has far less energy and costs more than diesel. We also have a diesel truck and Jeep, and can acquire and fill diesel with no problems because we live in a marine area where diesel is plentiful.
Also, diesels can run at 1800 rpm and not 3600 rpm like a propane generator. That means it is quieter and the engine lasts much longer.
I can get a diesel generator with a double-wall 100 gallon tank built in and hand fill it if necessary. Propane means I am dependent on a supply company like Ferrell which sucks as a company. I had to use them for the stove propane 110-gallon tank and that was damned expensive and took months to get.
Sounds like diesel is the way for you to go. Thank you for that information. I’d probably do
The same in your position. We evidently have a different situation here in our rural community in the mountains. We have been here 10 years and have not had those kind of issues with our propane services. I do like the lower rpm advantages though. Our Generac is not very loud compared to other generators. Thanks again for the feedback.
