The site began life as a database of Ukrainian regular and volunteer units, but over the years it has grown to cover a whole range of topics.
Ukrainian Ground Forces received a well-worth additional strength in the form of a new tank brigade. Demobilized, reactivated, used as replenishment and reactivated again. That’s the story of Ukrainian 5th Tank Brigade through the last years. The unit was formed back in 2016 as a reserve tank brigade, but was subsequently demobilized and reactivated only after the Russian full-scale invasion in February 2022.
However, due to fierce fighting on many fronts during the first months and the losses in other combat brigades, tanks and manpower were used as replenishment and the path of 5th Tank Brigade seemed to be over.
In March 2023, first hints appeared that Ukrainian Command has decided to reactive 5th Tank Brigade again, possibly due to large influx of Western-donated tanks and successful tank restoration process abroad. The brigade is rumored to receive Western-donated Leopard 1A5 or M1A1 Abrams tanks. If that’s the case or not, we have to wait and see. Arvydas Anušauskas, Lithuanian Defence Minister, has said that the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin that “the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade created by the military of the three states is preparing for the occupation of the western part of Ukraine” is a part of the information war.

DETAILS: According to the Lithuanian Defence Minister, “such an assessment, that five people could occupy some territories, looks ridiculous”.
QUOTE: “This is a message for an internal audience. We know that five of our Lithuanian officers serve in the brigade’s command because this is just a headquarters.”
MORE DETAILS: The minister also called for an understanding that “disinformation is part of the information war”.
BACKGROUND:
-On Friday, Putin said that an alleged Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade, formed by the military of the three states, is supposedly preparing for the occupation of the western part of Ukraine.
-Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the western territories of Poland are a “gift from Stalin,” and Poland should be grateful to the USSR for “restoring its independence”.
-Commenting on the statements of the head of the Kremlin about Warsaw’s alleged plans to occupy the western part of Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba called Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attempts to “drive a wedge” between Ukraine and Poland futile.

Russian occupiers at the Zaporizhzhia NPP have put the plant’s power unit into a hot shutdown state, which creates risks to nuclear and radiation safety.

QUOTE from Energoatom: “On 24 July, power unit No. 4 was put into a hot shutdown state in accordance with the order of the illegitimate management at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Such actions are a gross violation of the licence requirements for the operation of this nuclear installation. Currently, power unit No. 4 of the ZNPP must be operated exclusively in a cold shutdown mode.”
NOTE: Earlier, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate explained that switching the power unit to a hot shutdown mode would create new significant risks for nuclear and radiation safety.
In particular, such risks are caused by the long-term downtime of power unit No. 4 equipment, the lack of proper routine maintenance and repair of equipment important for safety, and the insufficient number of qualified personnel at the ZNPP.
QUOTE from SNRI: “Keeping all reactors of the ZNPP in a cold shutdown state is the optimal mode for reducing nuclear safety risks, the probability of equipment damage and the rational use of currently available water resources in the conditions of the loss of a reliable source of water supply for the Zaporizhzhia NPP – the Kakhovka Reservoir – as a result of the detonation of the Kakhovka HPP by the occupiers.”

The Ukrainian military killed Russian Colonel Yevgeny Vashunin, who commanded the Leningrad Regiment.

Details: Belsky said Vashunin was fatally wounded on 14 July when he and his unit tried to help the occupiers of the Storm unit, who had been encircled.
He claimed that Vashunin and his support group moved to meet the unit. Their movement was spotted by the Ukrainian military and a combat clash ensued. During the clash, Colonel Vashunin was “cut off” from his brothers-in-arms and seriously wounded. He died.
Fontanka reported that the Leningrad Regiment was formed mainly of conscripts from Saint Petersburg.
