A 26-year-old nursing student in Alabama who claimed she was abducted after spotting a toddler along the interstate admitted on Monday she made up the entire story.
Carlee Russell claimed that she was kidnapped on July 13 after she stopped to check on a toddler at 9:30pm. She turned up at her parents' house 49 hours later and told police she had been abducted, spinning an elaborate story of fighting for freedom.
Yet on Monday, Hoover police chief Nick Derzis read a statement from Russell's lawyer in which she admitted she had invented the story.
'There was no kidnapping on Thursday, July 13,' he said.
'Carlee again asks for your forgiveness and prayers.'
Derzis said police are continuing to work on the case and prosecutors are still deciding if criminal charges should be filed.
There was no indication of any motive for her staging her disappearance, or any information on where she was for 49 hours. She said in the statement she was alone.

It’s always women who do this.
I have an Ex who decided to call 911 to prove that whacking me with her elbow accidentally (on purpose) wasn’t domestic violence. She was shocked when the cops showed up a few minutes later, and staunchly denied making the call until confronted with the record of her phone number.
Later, after they let her slide with a warning (like they would give a 12 year old), she told me she didn’t know they could track cell phones.
And this woman had a law degree.
But if we do that people abducted molested and abused by space aliens will be reluctant to come forward. It happened to me once on 385 near Reno, looking back, I should have got her phone number.

I'd be more worried about what she would slip into my IV fluids. She's not a well puppy.
I expect nursing, at least as an RN, is no longer in her future. On the positive side for her, there is more opportunity for theft as a home health aide.
What ever crime you lie about, that’s the time you do. At least in my perfect world of criminal justice.

She needs to spend a number of years behind bars with a very long probation period.

Women lie about everything. Everything. They keep doing it because there aren’t any consequences for them. They ruin others lives with lies but escape consequences.
We need biblical punishment for liars. They get the maximum punishment the person they were framing faced.
Forgiveness and prayers, my a$$. By blaming a fictious white guy, she was risking causing racial strife. Maybe that was the point, a la Jussie.

We never found out why she was meeting with police the day before this escapade.
