The first ever all-Filipino cast on Broadway is set to debut its production, Here Lies Love, on July 20 at the Broadway Theatre.

Starring Tony Award winner, Lea Salonga, the show marks its return to the stage since its running time at the Public Theater in 2013 and 2014, according to the New York Theatre Guide.

The dance-pop musical follows Imelda Marcos, former First Lady of the Philippines, navigating her rise to political power alongside her husband, Ferdinand Marcos, former President of the Philippines.

It details the loss of their power when the assassination of their political rival, Ninoy Acquino, in 1983 sparks the People Power Revolution. In 1986, the revolution mobilized against the Marcos’ regime and forced them into exile in the U.S.

Not much of a Broadway fan, to me it's the story, singing, music and acting, not doing publicity screaming about being so politcally correct.

Looks like another "Evita".

All Filipino cast. That’s racist.

They should have cast a non-binary white woman as Ferdinand Marcos

Dylan Mulvaney should have auditioned.

As an aside, the Beatles feared for their life by a mob, after they reportedly dissed Imelda Marcos in 1966, according to western reports.

… And love lies bleeding in my hands
Oh, it kills me to think of you with another man
I was playing rock & roll, and you were just a fan
But my guitar couldn’t hold you, so I split the band …

I think the nonviolent revolution sending the Marcoses into exile is miraculous. For me it’s up there with the Solidarity Revolution in Poland. What God can accomplish in Christian countries!
(Of course this play does sound like Evita to me. But it doesn’t matter. Broadway is out of our budget, until the local high school performs it.)

They dissed Jesus Christ, and all that happened was a few Beatles records got burned.
