As am I. But I’m not off to any movie theater. I will rely on my DVD movie collection instead. Next up is the remastered version of ‘Charlie Chan in London’.
Enjoy! I heard you can go to the theater and buy popcorn and take it home while you enjoy a movie in your home. I’m going to try that sometime. I do like theater popcorn even though it costs a lot and horribly unhealthy.
This was before Keye Luke joined Oland as #1 son.
Oland is the most underrated actor in ethnic-Chinese roles, in part since he was Asian on his mother's side to begin with.
This movie also was, I think, the non-roncom premiere of Ray(mond) Milland, decades before The Lost Weekend, and the most devilish role of his career, as Satan in King of Kings, with Capt. Pike (aka Jeffrey Hunter) as Jesus.
LOVE Charlie Chan!
I’m more of a Mr. Moto fan, but Mr. Chan is good, too. I think they only gave Peter Lorre round glasses and voilà, he was Japanese. Poor Warner Oland (and the other Chans) had to go through much more in the makeup department.
I didn’t know Chan was based on a real Hawaiian police detective, Chang Apana. They should make a movie about him. Not everyone survives being stabbed six times, thrown out of a second-story window by drug addicts or run over by a horse and buggy, and still catching the bad guys. He and his bullwhip must’ve been pretty impressive in order to arrest 40 gamblers in a raid and march them to the police station all without backup.
