Ok, then I wish Glen had just performed the song. Don’t know why I said “written” because I knew most of Glenn’s best songs were written by Jimmy Webb. You are correct. Glen played for the best studio band ever, The Wrecking Crew, and he was the only one who ever played in it who could never read sheets. He was the best guitar player in the 60’s-70’s.

His acting in True Grit was pretty bad. It was the first and last time he ever worked as an actor. In the late 50’s -60’s westerns we’re losing their box office appeal so John Wayne brought on Glen for commercial reasons. He did the same thing with Ricky Nelson in Rio Bravo but Ricky was also an experienced actor as well as a popular singer.

John Wayne did a better job as Rooster Cogburn than Jeff Bridges. Also, Robert Duvall was a better Matt Cheney than Josh Brolin. In favor of the 2010 movie, Hallee Steinfeld and Matt Damon were better in their respective roles than Kim Darby and Glen Campbell. Hallee Steinfeld did not have the Scots-Irish “look” that you would associate with the character but she captured the personality better than Kim Darby. Neither movie was shot near the actual location of the novel: Arkansas and Oklahoma, with the 1969 version having outdoor scenes in the Colorado mountains and the 2010 version in New Mexico and Texas. A slight edge to the 2010 version.
