Glen didn’t write True Grit. Glen didn’t write many songs because he could barely read or write music. As for his acting, that’s a matter of opinion.

Ok, then I wish Glen had just performed the song. Don’t know why I said “written” because I knew most of Glenn’s best songs were written by Jimmy Webb. You are correct. Glen played for the best studio band ever, The Wrecking Crew, and he was the only one who ever played in it who could never read sheets. He was the best guitar player in the 60’s-70’s.

His acting in True Grit was pretty bad. It was the first and last time he ever worked as an actor. In the late 50’s -60’s westerns we’re losing their box office appeal so John Wayne brought on Glen for commercial reasons. He did the same thing with Ricky Nelson in Rio Bravo but Ricky was also an experienced actor as well as a popular singer.

Glen tells the story that when John Wayne asked him to appear in True Grit he told John he had never acted before and didn’t know how to act. John responded, “Awww, I’ll pull you through it”.
