I’m beginning to understand why 70’s pickup trucks in good condition fetch such high prices. Never mind an $89K Ford F-250, which is simply insane. On the other hand, you’re buying a 20 year old vehicle if you go this route.
I am pondering buying a Ford Ranger (one of the little guys) as my car (22 y/o Toyota) is beginning to show signs of overall failure. The good news is that they are cheap, in the $4k-$8K range. The bad news is that they all have 200+K miles on them. But if they go that long, I have to consider that a good indication.
You should see what aero nose fords (AKA obs AKA 92-97) with IDI and Powerstroke diesels are doing money wise.
Makes me happy I own 4 of them :)
Every ‘problem’ is a Business Opportunity.
I foresee a business where a company takes a 20 year old vehicle and rebuilds it to ‘Like New’ condition, inside and out with some necessary upgrades where appropriate.
New trucks, cars, etc, will become all EV and no one will buy them.
The older vehicles with new/rebuilt powertrains and modern electronics and suspensions will become the norm for a good while, until America gets over its love affair with EVs..............................
I had the 4.0 litre engine in two Aerostars. Reliable as anything.
Boy, I lucked out last year. Found an ‘04 Mazda B2300 for my son for his 18th birthday. $7800 after tax and registration. 86K miles on it! And now he’s one of the few teenagers who can drive a stick. 😂
I’m facing the same issue with my F-150. It’s a 2004 with a little over 200k miles on it, it’s a basic super cab truck with very few options other than air conditioning. A direct replacement for it is north of $70k.
It’s of the age where I can still do most of the work on it so I will repair it as long as I possibly can. Fortunately, we don’t have rust problems here in the southwest.
A friend paid $450 for a 1995 F-150 with a 6 cylinder. It need a lot of work, but after about a year and $2,000 it is up and running and good farm truck. He bought it from a West Texas city getting rid of their older service trucks.
