It is very rare for a movie’s popularity to grow after the first weekend of wide release. Studios routinely expect a significant decline, after the eager fans have already attended and the impact of the marketing blitz fades. When a movie’s gross receipts soar, it is almost a certain sign that word-of-mouth publicity – the hope and dream of every mass entertainmåent product – is spreading the word that this is a film not to be missed.

That appears to be what is happening with Sound of Freedom, the movie chronicling one man’s fight against child sex slavery. (If you missed Lauri Regan’s stellar review of the movie and report on the very diverse crowd attending a suburban New York multiplex showing, read it here).
Here is a PR release from Angel Studios, which bought the rights to distribute it from Disney, after that company with its “not so secret gay agenda” shelved it for five years.

Angel Studios is projecting over $85 million total cumulative box office revenue through Sunday, with a strong $27 million box office draw in the second weekend of the film’s domestic release.
“While the entire summer movie box office lineup is underperforming, our small independent film continues to grow week over week.

Its like the Bud-Light effect, in reverse: As media discussion/controversy grows (especially has leftists attack it), people who normally wouldn’t have heard about it, or may not have cared, become interested.
At this rate, it will probably reach $200 million. Could go much higher still.
It’ll be interesting to see how the movie does come award season.
award shows “movie? what movie? never heard of it”
Keep in mind that all of this box office revenue is domestic. It has already doubled its production and marketing costs.
I do not go to movies much, but I hereby commit to going to see it this weekend as I see it’s playing locally. FRiends, will you commit? And by the way, to hell with Disney. This is the first I heard they originally had the rights. The wicked bastards
I hear ZZ-Top playing ‘Legs’. This films got ‘em. Word of mouth is going to keep this in the theaters for a while.
Theaters are loving this movie. Theaters only make real money if a movie stays more than two weeks, which is when the revenue swings to a more even split with the movie studio. Less than two weeks, the movie studio gets most of the money, and theaters struggle to get by on concession stand revenue.
Wife and I will pick a mid-week matinee to see it.

They'll clear $100 million on the domestic market by the end of the month - that's a movie that cost $14.5 million. The fact that it was Disney that shelved it makes it oh so much sweeter.
Reminds be of The Passion of Christ box office success, but they won’t figure it out.
Not very well, given the rapturous applause given to Polonsky, Weinstein, etc.

very good movie, worth the 2:15 runtime.
Saw it on Saturday. Liked it.
We also have word of demand in other countries that want it to be processed through their legal mechanisms so that it can be shown to them.
Ask every cashier you are at if they have seen it and tell them it’s a great movie and seeing it supports freeing sex slavery of children , and say it loud enough for everyone in line behind you to hear it.
That’s my extra effort.
Gets the word out.
