"Baby Come Back" is a song by the British-American rock band Player. It was released in late 1977 as the lead single from their 1977 self-titled debut album, and was the breakthrough single for the band, gaining them mainstream success, hitting #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for the three consecutive weeks of January 14, 21 and 28, 1978 and #10 on the R&B charts in 1978.[4] Their biggest hit single, the song was written and performed by Peter Beckett and J.C. Crowley, the founders of Player.
As reported on the American Top 40 replay broadcast of November 5, 1977, "Baby Come Back" was written after two of the band members had broken up with their girlfriends.
Heck of a guitar solo too!
It’s hard to find but their live album, “Backstage Pass” is still one of my favorites. Mostly songs from “Sleepercatcher”, which is IMHO The Little River Band’s best album.
Apparently, some people think Daryl Hall and John Oates did this song . . .
I 'acquired' a digital copy of this back in the Napster piracy days. Whoever ripped it labeled the artist as H&O. It still says that on my iPhone.
This song and many others like it are played on Sirius/XM Channel 14 (Yacht Rock Radio).
I still think this is the only song with “false bravado” in it. Lol.
Ronn Moss left B&B quite some time ago. Unfortunately, the current actor in the role is all wrong (a serious German actor playing a laid-back California dude).
I remember those days. It was Metallica, of all bands, who had Napster’s file-sharing service (to give it its proper name) labeled as “piracy”. This was a redux of the old “Home taping is killing music” (which I’ve seen on records from Europe mostly). When Metallica was first attempting to get noticed, they would distribute copies of their demo, “No Life Till Leather”, for free.
Bands traditionally did not make money from record sales, unless they were the owners of their own catalog; such things were for the record companies, while the band made money from touring.
I saw them in El Paso many moons ago. The opening act was Poco. Great concert!
Yea .. it doesn’t help when it happens a month before entering freshman year at college though...
