2024 Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that former President Donald Trump is “probably the most successful debater in the country” since Lincoln-Douglas in an interview with Fox News on Friday.
Kennedy told the hosts of Fox and Friends that True was “extraordinary” for taking down the other 16 Republican candidates during the 2016 presidential election. Trump is “unlikely to participate” in the upcoming Republican primary debates as he’s confident in his high lead in national and state polls, according to one of his advisors who spoke to The Hill.
“We’re going to try to get [Biden] to debate, we think it’s really important. And it’s important for, I think, the Democratic Party because ultimately the president is going to have to debate a Republican, and the Republican likely, we don’t know, but it’s going to be Trump,” RFK Jr. said during the interview. “Trump is probably the most successful debater in this country since Lincoln-Douglas in the way he dispatched 16 Republican opponents one after the other in 2016, was really quite extraordinary.”
President Biden hasn’t said for certain whether he’ll participate in the Democratic primary debates, though it would be unprecedented for an incumbent president to do so, according to ABC News.
“Do you think Joe Biden is afraid to debate you, or is it a historical thing?” asked Fox News Host Steve Doocy.
“I don’t know what is happening with President Biden. I think it is important for the country that we have debates,” Kennedy responded. “It’s really important to persuade the American people that democracy works and we’re all participants, and that people can look at the different candidates and make a rational choice.”
Kennedy is currently polling at 14.4 percent, nearly 50 points behind Biden, according to the RealClearPolitics average, which consists of polls conducted between June 5 and June 26.
I agree.
So long as this doesn’t confusing “successful” with “presenting the objectively best arguments which appropriately and accurately also present the opposing position in a thoughtful reflective manner”, but is focussed on solidifying those that support one and winning over the wavering, I would not disagree.
A couple of decades ago, I believe Joe Sobran had a series of columns on the Lincoln-Douglas debates and the virtual extinction of intelligent public discourse. One of the benefits of universal public education run by the goverment.
by refusing to debate?
Hiring loyal and effective cabinet officials and political appointees, not so much.
Reagan was good too...until his handlers loaded him up with factoids that got him confused. Then they cut him loose at the next debate and he nailed Mondole with perhaps the best one-liner in a presidential debate, throwing back the “too old” question at Mondole, who was left having to laugh with everyone else in the audience.
Trump has that same ‘Reagan Unleashed’ style...people like it because it’s genuine and really gets into the thinking of a candidate, whereas rattling off statistics, such as the number of bushels of wheat being higher now than 4 years ago, makes one look like a robot.
I’d like to see it I can’t imagine they’d let Biden debate RFK Jr unless they really want to throw him under the bus
advise and consent of the senate, cocaine mitch wasn’t approving anyone that wanted to drain the swamp. nor was he allowing any recess appointments either
No, not so much. It might have been COVID, but he wasn’t that good in the 2020 debates.
Lincoln-Douglas was a debate, not a debater.
The Buck Stops Here.
nor was he allowing any recess appointments either
That was the one thing that truly fixed his place in history as the biggest POS liar ever.
I loved the Herman Cain-Gingrich debate
John Fredericks on RAV is adamant that Trump pick RFK as VP.
He played an interview of RFK re climate change and I was gobsmacked. He said the movement exists so the elite can control the citizens, and compared climate change to Covid in that context.
Said the climate is warmer, but it can be handled by reasonable measures via free enterprise, not the way the libs are handling it.
Anyhow, FWIW...
“President Biden hasn’t said for certain whether he’ll participate in the Democratic primary debates”
What Democratic primary debates? I thought they were not going to happen. Did I miss something?
Refresh my memory/
Trump has back McConnell to the hilt, including endorsing this January.
Reagan had a brilliant grasp of facts, watch his interviews and speeches.
Reagan spent years giving daily radio commentary, which he was handwriting himself, sometimes on airplanes.
As I said, watch his interviews and listen to the grasp of details and facts he had.
No, he crushed Biden in the second Debate.
