I’ve been a Fairport fan since the late 60’s but have never seen them live . Proud to say I am a friend of drummer Dave Mattacks and was a close Facebook friend of Judy Dyble . I believe Judy told me that Ian Matthews and she were an “ item “ for a time back in the day . Did see Richard Thompson once , solo , in Tokyo in 1985 or 86 with Loudon Wainright opening .
Very nice. Thanks.
I bought one FC album back in 1970 or 1971. Back then, they had a Renaissance music style that got really boring. They didn’t sound anything like this song at all.
Yours is quite a Fairport testimony. And lets not forget Sandy Denny and her solo albums that came after. Unfortunately, some of the best artists have tragic lives.

That photo is SD’s parents at their lovely house.
Full House album ? One of my faves .
“That photo is SD’s parents at their lovely house.”
Yes , I know . Let’s not forget original drummer Martin Lamble , who played on WKWTTG , who was killed in a van crash on a motorway returning from a gig one night . Richard’s girlfriend was also killed .
I own the 1952 Leedy & Ludwig snare DM played on this song .

I just looked it up. It was “Liege and Leaf,” 1969. Wow, long time ago.
I sold the LP probably 30 years ago.
Listening to it now — it’s very good.
“Liege and Lief” (not “Leaf”). Oops.
That is considered by many as Fairport’s finest moment . First Fairport album Dave Mattacks played on .
Saw Fairport Convention many many years ago with Poco & Honk. Poco had just reconfigured and sounded more pop rock than country rock. I went for FC, but the new Poco crowd dominated. They were “patient” with FC & Honk, then totally raucus when Poco came on. I was previously a Poco fan too, but their change turned me off. (My gf at the time was and still is a Honk fan ‘cause she knew the drummer from high school days).
Ian Matthews is looking good here and RT gets some licks in. RT lives in New Jersey these days/ With wife * x that will rob him blind
RT’s first band was formed in his early teens when he went to school in North London : Emil and The Detectives . Future Stranglers’ lead singer and vocalist Hugh Cornwell played bass !
