Is math racist?

No, it usually represents an objective truth.

But if your brain can’t handle the levels of abstraction required to perform high-level math at a fairly early age, then it’s unlikely you will ever figure it out.

Some draw the line at algebra as being the great separator of economic success. Those that understand and can functionally utilize algebra are generally more successful than those that cannot.

Is there a racial component to the brains ability to understand and use algebra? I’m not touching that with a 10-foot pole, but if there were a racial component, todays leftist attitudes would relegate algebra to the ash heap of learning in favor of something less-rigorous - attributing lack of relative success of one racial group to another to “racism” not the ability to do algebra - which is a marker of success in society - so it’s algebras fault, and if you teach it, you are racist.

This is the express path to the economic decline of any country, and we are on it.

In my several years of math teaching — basic to Trig. I found that geometry was the line class. Algebra can be done with “turn and crank” thinking, geometry (proofs) take more abstraction.

In my own case, I stumbled through algebra and in geometry I found that I could see the solution far easier than some classmates. I also saw that some teachers did not “see” enough of the problem to help the student who was asking a question. That led me to consider teaching.

But as far as race — I was color blind. I taught the facts of math to everyone. I tried to see the hang up that was keeping some students from “getting it”. But there is nothing racial in math.

Look for the problem in the background classes. Help the students who are in crummy schools and get rid of math teachers who have trouble themselves with math.

The hardest thing for a math teacher to hear is “I hated math, it was my hardest subject”.
