Azovstal commanders promise to have their say in battle

The commanders of the defenders of the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works who have returned to Ukraine have pledged to continue the fight and to have their say in battle.

“I am deeply convinced that the army is a joint effort, and from this day onwards, we will continue the fight together with you. We will definitely have our say in battle.

AND WE WILL DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE AND IMPOSSIBLE to speed up this process so that the war reaches its logical conclusion.”
DETAILS: Asked whether they would go back to the front, Prokopenko answered: “Of course. That’s why we returned to Ukraine. This is our main goal.”
Describing their stay in Türkiye, Sviatoslav Palamar, Deputy Commander of the Azov Regiment, paraphrased a poem by Lesia Ukrainka: “We are paraplegics with sparkling eyes, great in spirit, small in strength. We feel the wings of eagles behind us, but we were chained to Turkish land.”
“We have returned, and we will continue to do our work. We are military, we swore an oath,” Palamar said.

BACKGROUND:
• President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday that the military commanders who defended the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works and then stayed in Türkiye after being released from Russian captivity in a prisoner swap were returning to Ukraine from Türkiye.
• The president’s press service later confirmed that five commanders from Azovstal had been brought back to Ukraine on Saturday following negotiations with Türkiye.
• Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Ukraine and Türkiye of violating agreements after five commanders who defended the Azovstal steelworks were brought back to their homeland.
• On Saturday evening, President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Lviv together with the commanders who defended Azovstal.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is returning home from Türkiye together with the defenders of Azovstal steelworks, who had been staying in Türkiye since September 2022.
The relevant statement was made by the Head of State on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We are returning home from Türkiye and bringing our heroes home,” Zelensky wrote.

In his words, the Ukrainian warriors, namely Denys Prokopenko, Svyatoslav Palamar, Serhiy Volynsky, Oleh Khomenko and Denys Shleha, will finally be with their relatives.
A reminder that, in September 2022, as part of the prisoner swap, a total of 215 Ukrainian defenders were released from Russian captivity, including the commanders of the Ukrainian defenders who fought for Azovstal steelworks.
Since then, they had been staying in Türkiye under the personal guarantees of protection and safety of President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The last reactor at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant currently remains in a ‘hot shutdown’ state, according to Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
He said this on national television, Ukrinform reports.
“Currently, the ZNPP’s last power unit continues to be in a ‘hot shutdown’ state. This means that the unit continues to pose an increased danger,” Yusov said.

He recalled that today the Ukrainian intelligence published a map of mine and explosive barriers that the occupiers placed at the ZNPP.
“On the one hand, this is a ‘hello’ to all the ‘doves of peace’ who say abroad that they see no problems in the actions of the occupiers. On the other hand, this is a signal to the occupiers themselves that Ukrainians see everything. As a matter of fact, the Russians have already reacted to the publication of this information, and Russian Guard representatives urgently went there to make the appropriate corrections,” Yusov said.
He explained that this map only shows what is happening at the station at the level of mine and explosive barriers. According to him, the entire territory of the station is currently mined. In addition, there is separate mining, separate equipment, trucks with explosives.
Yusov emphasized that the mining process continues.
“As long as the object is in the hands of the occupiers, the danger remains. But with incredible efforts, Ukraine, the security and defense sector, our diplomats, the military and political leadership are taking public and non-public measures in order to influence the reduction of the level of danger,” he said.
He emphasized that the whole world should remember that the nuclear power plant in Europe had been illegally seized by terrorists who have already committed terrorist attacks and war crimes and who have already practiced nuclear blackmail. In his opinion, this is a challenge to which Ukraine and the whole world must respond until the complete demilitarization of the plant, by removing the occupiers from there and returning the ZNPP to the legal control of Ukraine.
