The maps showed Russia about 9 months to take nearly all of Bakhmut, losing, we're told circa 100,000 casualties in the effort, while Ukrainians slowly gave ground.
At the end now 10 months the maps show Ukrainians still contesting a small area on the western outskirts of Bakhmut.
Ukraine's forces appear to be hoping to encircle Bakhmut from the north and south, making slow progress, but perhaps faster progress than Russians (Wagner!) made moving west.
Nothing is certain as of today.
Ukraine calls it a counter offensive.
The only reason you counter is to take back what you don’t have.
