Facebook content moderators in Kenya call the work ‘torture.’ Their lawsuit may ripple worldwide

On the verge of tears, Nathan Nkunzimana recalled watching a video of a child being molested and another of a woman being killed.

Eight hours a day, his job as a content moderator for a Facebook contractor required him to look at horrors so the world wouldn’t have to. Some overwhelmed colleagues would scream or cry, he said.

Now, Nkunzimana is among nearly 200 former employees in Kenya who are suing Facebook and local contractor Sama over working conditions that could have implications for social media moderators around the world. It is the first known court challenge outside the United States, where Facebook settled with moderators in 2020. […]

The moderators from several African countries are seeking a $1.6 billion compensation fund after alleging poor working conditions, including insufficient mental health support and low pay. Earlier this year, they were laid off by Sama as it left the business of content moderation. They assert that the companies are ignoring a court order for their contracts to be extended until the case is resolved.

Facebook and Sama have defended their employment practices. …

What a horrible job to have. What a corrupt world we live in, that human beings do such horrible things, then film them and put them on social media. How long, LORD? LORD have mercy on us all.

Here is an idea, somehow we managed to do just fine without farcebook or titter or any of the other social media for ages. What redeeming social value does it have? What commercial value does it really bring?

Do we really need it at all?

I don’t think so, shut it down.

I was one of the two security people for a 2004 DOD contract that reviewed computers of DOD employees accused of computer crimes. The people who had to watch the videos said things similar to what is reported in this story.

Fortunately, my company had excellent salary and mental health benefits, and they were extended for the poor people working on this stuff.

If they call it “reparations pay” .... well, .... the MSM will rollover and give them free advertising.

OTOH - it seems that there are some jobs people will gladly do for a bit more money.

Seems to me many blacks in the US think they could do ab better job governing us. Let’s looks at Africa and see how well they’ve done self governing since they started to shake off white rule in the 1990s. First noticeable events came from:

“In just 100 days in 1994, about 800,000 people were slaughtered in Rwanda by ethnic Hutu extremists. They were targeting members of the minority Tutsi community, as well as their political opponents, irrespective of their ethnic origin.”

Next check out how many thousands have been slaughtered by war lords:
https://www.thesouthafrican.com/news/africas-top-10-dictators-and-warlords-body-count-included/

How many kids reach their 18th birthday without being raped?

“South Africa has some of the highest incidences[spelling?] of child and infant rape in the world.[19] The Tears Foundation and the MRC stated 50% of South Africa’s children will be abused before the age of 18.[20] The MRC study stated that, in 2009, 15% were under 12 years old.

How many young boys are being sent into combat in Africa?

n 2003, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimated that up to half of children involved with state armed forces and non-state armed groups worldwide were in Africa.[6] In 2004, Child Soldiers International estimated that 100,000 children were in use on the continent;[7] in 2008, an academic estimate put the total at 120,000 children, or 40 percent of the global total of child soldiers.[8]

Seems the black on everyone else crime is exploding in the US and all you hear is a lot of politicians pontificating about gun control or black “leaders” crying about white supremacy.

The slave trade actually took root when African tribes found selling to be more profitable than killing. It wasn’t white crackers who collected the slaves and brought them to the coastal departure points to sell.

Ideological rather than innate. One thing that stays out of the news is the inroads that godless communism made on that continent for decades, starting with the USSR and continuing with Red China. The ideology that preaches against so-called colonialism is of course the most colonial-”ist”.
