IF YOU BELIEVE THIS, IT ALSO SAYS:

Oxitec’s safe, sustainable and targeted biological pest control technology does not harm beneficial insects* like bees and butterflies and is proven to control the disease transmitting Aedes aegypti mosquito, which has invaded communities in Florida, California and other U.S. states. In California, since first being detected in 2013, this mosquito has rapidly spread to more than 20 counties throughout the state, increasing the risk of transmission of dengue, chikungunya, Zika, yellow fever and other diseases.

Regarding the second claim — that Oxitec’s product “does not harm beneficial insects” — there is, of course, no way to affirmatively know the long-term effects of this product on local fauna because three years is a blip on the radar in the Public Health™ domain.

Anything to kill trillions of the damn lawyer bugs is a good thing.

The government has such a great track record of messing with the environment. Look at Buffel grass in the southwest and Cutsu in the southeast United States. The USDA brought both of them in. They are both an invasive plant species that are currently wreaking havoc where they grow. The Buffel grass feeds wildfires in the southwest , Cutsu chokes out native vegetation in the southeast and invades structures.

The experimental public health effort, which still requires final approval from state regulators...

I thought the skeeters were already released, and there were questions on how and why Florida allowed it to happen.

And why Florida and Texas? No Blue states, huh?

Mosquitos haven’t been that prevalent in central Florida in the last couple of years. Not sure why they are doing this.

Why don’t they do this experiment in the UK or somewhere else other than Florida and CA? Living in Florida, if something goes wrong, it’s the people in this state and CA that will be affected. It seems that every time some company or government sponsored entity does experiments, it does something unintended that hurts people, animals or plants. That’s why there’s a huge kudzu vine problem in FL. Or the ladybug problem. Bioengineered mosquitoes...mmmm. What could possibly go wrong?

When I lived in south Florida for a couple of years, I was appalled at the monthly spraying from the air. Who knew what the spray would do to fruit and vegetables? I’ve always bought organic and of course, paid a bit more for it. But why bother when it’s covered with mosquito spray of any kind.

(My Opinion) : There was a reason for instituting Ellis Island as an immigration station to eliminate diseases, political dissidents, terrorists, and foreign diseases.
We are now experiencing a resurgence of diseases which had previously been eradicated in the US

Oxitec’s mosquito release — which the EPA calls an “experimental pesticide product” — can take place in a 34,760-acre area

It's nice they have them properly fenced in so they can control their "experiment" and stop it in case something goes terribly wrong.
