Just got a roku TV with a used camper trailer Simple Remote is dead, batteries are fine. I cannot believe that the on-set buttons are useless. I have reset the entire box and am stuck at the language menu. No way to select or enter from the buttons on the side. Can anyone help.
I have a several year old ROKU TV. Will never buy another. After a few years it kept disconnecting from the WiFi and I had to keep resetting it every time I watched it. I tried every damn thing suggested to fix that problem. Nothing worked.
The picture and sound was still really good so I decided for the hell of it to buy an Amazon Firestick and hooked it to the TV.
Worked like a charm.
Get an inexpensive backup HD antenna. It will get all local stations for free. These days there are dozens.
I have an older Roku box and bought their rechargeable remote a while back.
Late last week the remote seemed to quit. Some buttons would not respond. I recharged. It didn’t help much. I loaded an old battery remote and tried it. Same problem — some buttons worked, others didn’t.
Finally, I rebooted the box and things improved.
Your problem may not be your remote, but may be in the Roku system. Can you reboot the system?
download the Roku app on your phone it has a remote function built in. Just make sure they are both on the same network.
The remotes tend to go out... they’re very cheap and cheaply made, so I ordered a spare last time.
It is a sign from God and your guardian angel...STOP.
“Open the cover on the battery box and there should be a small button.”
Good idea. Not on the model. I expect that if I can’t see the red led on the bottom corner of the TV flicker with remote pressure.
I have a dead remote.
How to set up your Roku TV

You can buy a separate Roku device. Plug in the hdmi cable to it and the tv.
The internet cable to the roku. You have to have a router that has a cable to your pc and then another one goes to the roku box.

Before the reset ...
Tried Antenna — problem was without remote I couldn’t get it to scan the RF channels.
There was a time that designs of sets allowed you to step around menus and selections from the side buttons. A remote was just to make it easier.
Now, you can’t do a damn thing without the remote, or a backdoor app on your phone.
That happened to last week.
There’s a reset button the remote. On some remotes you can see the button. On mine, I had to take off the battery cover.
I did take that cover off, took out the batteries and still no visible button.
Do I have to unscrew the back and dissemble it ?
Granted we maybe be talking two different generations or layouts.
Mine has OK in the middle of the four arrows and magnifying glass directly center below that
We have two different Rokus, and two remotes — not identical. They’re quite old so probably not like yours.
But I found my info online. It was stuck on the screen for Language, and I was fed up!
Mine has the mic that you can speak in to. I took off the battery cover but didn’t have to remove batteries. The reset button was below the batteries, and rather large, black, and blended into the plastic.
When I was done, I had to do the entire setup again. It was a pain, but it’s fine now.
I don”t have a magnifying glass. I expect yours is newer.
It took about 10 minutes to find the action that worked.
I love Roku TVs. I've got two of them. I love the simple remotes.
These are probably the easiest TVs to set up and you can buy replacement remotes from Amazon for under $10. I always have a few spare remotes on hand because the kids are always losing them.
I like to use the Roku app remote, I install it on my iPad and an old iPhone. Use settings, and guide, explore a bit, and it’s a lot easier than a remote I think.
Many of us think ‘Any App’ is spyware. I hope you don’t do any financial stuff on that phone.
I feel much safer within a browser with javascript in the throttle modes. I want to know where my connections are going on the wicked world web.
