A North Carolina man viciously attacked a family’s dog, stabbing it repeatedly until it died in an unprovoked attack while its owner was playing pickleball, officials said.
James Wesley Henry, 43, was arrested for the killing of the mixed-breed pooch named Beignet at an Asheville park Monday afternoon and charged with felony cruelty to animals, Asheville police said.
Henry allegedly walked up to the helpless 11-year-old pup, grabbed it by the throat and slashed it with a knife over and over again, cops said.
“The guy killed the dog with a knife, basically eviscerating it,” Asheville Police Capt. Michael Lamb told the Asheville Watchdog.
Beignet’s owner Liesbeth Mackie told the publication that she brought her dog with her to Weaver Park and secured her on a long leash in a shady spot a few feet away from the pickleball court. *** “All of a sudden, I noticed that there was some commotion happening with her dog,” pickleball player Eric Hulin told the Watchdog. “I saw the attacker, definitely with all of his strength — with what I thought at the time was a closed fist — slamming on the dog, really.”
However, Henry was reportedly holding a knife in his fist.
“I turned and looked at the dog, and saw its last couple of yelps and twitches,” Hulin said to the outlet, adding that he can’t get the image out of his head.
“It was covered in blood. There was blood everywhere. It took me a moment because I wasn’t sure what happened.” ***

“We’ve had over the last couple of months, whether it’s mental health, addiction or both, we have seen a lot of that erratic behavior around town,” Lamb said. “Typically, this is not something we’ve seen in the Weaver Park/north Asheville area, but it is starting to seemingly spread out.”
Asheville has been plagued with rising violent crime in recent years that has coincided with an exodus from the local police force, which is down more than 40%. Asheville Police Chief David Zack told Fox News Digital last fall that his department is straining to maintain visibility after more than 100 officers have left since May 2020.
In April, city leaders announced a 60-day initiative to improve conditions downtown amid the crisis in police staffing.
Tom Mackie, Liesbeth’s husband, reportedly blamed liberal city leaders for the incident amid the surge of crime and homelessness in Asheville.
“The city government and the mayor have my dog’s blood on their hands,” Tom Mackie said. “Asheville is no longer safe.”
“The way our dog was savagely murdered, it could have been my wife,” he added. “It could have been a kid. The crime in Asheville is spreading out like a cancer.”
This will go into the Amish talking point to excuse their malfeasance.
“Hey, it was ONLY a dog.”
That’s similar to: “Hey, that business had insurance.”
Deviants.
He’ll get a public defender on our dime, say how he was just walking along minding his own business and was attacked by a racist dog. And because of HIS race he has to be believed.
Would not be surprised if he counter sued the family.
We went there to visit the in-laws one year. Of course they’re super liberal and I knew exactly what we were getting into. Reminded me of Bloomington, IN.
“one pit bull? Put a pair “
Why put the dogs in danger?
Round here we would just chain the trash to a tree
and go about our business ....
He’ll learn his lesson ... and after a week or 2
we’ed get our chain back.
Sometimes yall just over complicate things.
Scott Adams proven correct again.
Am I the only one who misses “Dilbert”?
George Floyd died and freepers blame the cops for being bad cops and letting him die.
Guess what? for the neighborhood it was a win-win-win. no more crime or violence from george, no more welfare payments to George and it was a free loot and steal holiday because poor st. George.
Maybe he was just helping to “Keep Asheville Weird.”
Many in cities think the ‘loot and steal holiday’ continues on.
Our country has hit rock bottom. No wonder decent people are arming themselves, it’s not just the government threat, it’s all the criminals out there they refuse to prosecute.
They should have took his knife and done the same to him...worthless human debris
Aw, can't we at least hang a hornet nest on the tree, right above him?
I carry. Anybody comes for my dog and I’m filling him full of lead. I’ll take my chances with the jury. “I feared for my life. We were violently attacked and I thought I was next”.
Of course. Another monster who needs to be put down permanently or else he’ll be out in days doing it again and next time it’ll be someone’s child.
Too much effort. Why be a monster yourself? Just be done with him quickly and cleanly.
Quite so.
If, G-d forbid, I saw someone stabbing my cat, there would be no effort expended which I would deem too much. Being done with him "quickly and cleanly" is far too good for this ___ who so cruelly stabbed an old helpless dog, depriving him of his last years and his loving family of his company.
Agreed, that negro would look like a piece of bullet ridden black swiss cheese if he hurt my 11 year old boston terrier. I’m too old to worry about jail or lawsuits, and my dog is my best friend.
Asheville is a godless sh*thole which should be avoided by ANYONE with a shred of humanity in their soul.
