:British-born actor Julian Sands, best known for his role in the Oscar-celebrated film "A Room with a View," was confirmed dead on Tuesday, five months after he went missing while out for a hike in snow-covered mountains near Los Angeles, authorities said.
Mostly skeletal human remains discovered by hikers on Saturday in the area where Sands, 65, vanished were positively identified by the San Bernardino County coroner as belonging to the actor, the county sheriff's department said.
The performer, known to be an avid mountain climber and hiker, was reported missing on the evening of Friday, Jan. 13, after he had gone hiking alone in the Baldy Bowl Wilderness Preserve of the San Gabriel Mountains earlier that day.

Good actor.
RIP.
He was in his mid-sixties. I’m 69. I was in really good shape until, suddenly, I wasn’t. It was very abrupt. But now, I won’t walk out of the house without my phone because I have several times found it extremely difficult to cover even a short distance and I live on five acres in a very rural place. If you’re over sixty, at least tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back.
.
Not smart.
I too learned the hard way - but luckily - by the grace of God - I survived it.
Or you can part with a measly $100-ish on sale and buy a SPOT tracker.
Has SOS feature, emergency text capability and can be tracked via website. All for $15 lousy clams a month.
Magic.
I’ll have to check into that.
What a wonderful idea! Never heard of it, but I’ll get one for my sister who insists on living alone and her cell service is spotty at best. Many thanks. (Learn something new every day...well, every couple of months.)
Hope he didn’t get bit by a spider.
Well, never know when you hit a homer - glad I could be of service!
We trak the kids on their forays into the mountains with it.
Rest in piece, Julian.
Know what you mean. All I have in my house is my cell phone, so I got another phone for emergencies and keep it upstairs when I am there and glad I did. Prepaid Tracfone for a year in advance.
One of his films I love to watch was a horror picture he was in called “Warlock”, that was kind of fun to watch. He was on another that was kind of weird called: “Boxing Helena”, Kim Basinger was supposed to be in it, then quit the film, and was sued for Breach of Contract which caused her bankruptcy.
Yes, they said the movie was so bad, he bankruptcy was worth it. I can’t remember the name of the woman who directed it.
The director was Jennifer Lynch I don’t know if ever did anything else. It was just a very odd movie, Sherilyn Finn took the lead role. It bombed, the producers had Bassinger and she just quit but she had a contract and they went after her. This was after she had bought that town in Georgia. Well she lost the case and most of her money. Then she took up with Alec Baldwin and made a comeback of sorts later on with L.A. Confidential winning an Oscar.
I looked it up, Jennifer Lynch is the daughter of David Lynch, and she didn’t make another movie for 15 years.
Warlock," was good. I really liked him in Ken Russell's "Gothic," and thought he nailed the Percy Shelley character, and now, like Shelley, he's died an unnatural death at the hands of nature.
“I won’t walk out of the house without my phone” Same age as you, and do the same thing.

Never hike alone
