Pecan Sandies are great! Nonetheless, wouldn’t it be better to just add a second pecan pie day?

I undoubtedly ate my way into triple digits with those things as a kid. 😁

I made pecan baklava a couple of days ago. Will have to try sandies some time. Never made shortbread.

It’s also National Widows Day. Or as we say on the Free Republic: Laz’s Day.

I thought it was just me and my old tastebuds...
Sometimes it is that. I can no longer detect the subtleties in really good coffee that I used to, but some products have just CHANGED. Sometimes it is visible. I bought a box of Fruity Pebbles (which had been based on the best tasting cereal of all time, Post Sugar Rice Krinkles), and the appearance changed, the text changed, the ratio of "fruits" changed. Similar for Special K (which wasn't as big a deal). Nestle Quik also changed, and then they went back to the old formula. I haven't tried since. Also, when Drakes and Hostess were revived, the cakes were smaller and drier. The first iteration of Suzie Qs were unrecognizeable, though the 2nd version was a close restoration (Suzie Qs need to be smother in shortening creme). The Ding Dongs/King Dons/Big Wheels were awful. The Funny Bones now have LESS filling and are penut flavored instead of whipped peanut butter. The fast food burgers definitely lowered their game. The Whopper used to be a 1/3 of a pound. It is easily handled with one hand now. I could go on, but you get the gist.

Yes, they are now more akin to the Whopper Jr., and I imagine the Whopper Jr. is akin to the tiny bargain menu burgers that Wendy’s now sells (when Wendy’s went national, their SMALLEST burger, the Single had a much meat as McDonald’s then largest, the 1/4 Pounder. The Double 1/4 Pounder was not yet released.)

They ALL taste like cardboard now.
When we get a burger we go to a Mom & Pop local place that has the greasiest juiciest old fashioned hamburgers in town. There is always a line around the building and out to the street of cars waiting for their order...............

You can sometimes find them at Dollar Tree. Typically cheaper than Wal-Mart.
