Walmart and Sam’s Club introduce ‘game-changing’ new feature at hundreds of stores across the country: ‘It’s a big win’

As electric vehicles (EVs) become increasingly popular, Walmart has announced plans to build EV charging stations at thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across the country by 2030.

“With a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, we are uniquely positioned to deliver a convenient charging option that will help make EV ownership possible whether people live in rural, suburban, or urban areas,” wrote Walmart’s Senior Vice President of Energy Transformation Vishal Kapadia in a release.

By installing charging stations across the country, Walmart makes owning an EV easier for drivers who worry they won’t be able to find a place to charge their vehicle.

“Easy access to on-the-go charging is a game-changer for drivers who have been hesitant to purchase an EV for concerns they won’t be able to find a charger in a clean, bright, and safe location when needed,” Kapadia wrote.

Already, 280 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in the U.S. offer nearly 1,300 fast-charging stations for electric vehicles.

“It is always so hard to find a place to park at Walmart except far off in the corners.”

Here the lots are generally about 1/3 full but I park way out at the end anyway lol

I can just see in 5 years lines of people gridlocking walmart parking lots in their EV’s waiting for charging spots...And then when someone finally comes out to their EV, they take another 10 minutes to load up their groceries...lol... A nightmare in the making..☺

No doubt! LOL

Of course, to be honest I run into that at gas stations, too. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone already paid at the pump, pumped gas, then when finished walked inside the store without first politely moving his car so others could fill up.

As it is now, charging stations have what they call "idle fees". Basically, when your car is done charging (either topped off all the way or stopped at whatever level you configured in your car) you have X minutes to disconnect (i.e. move it) before you start getting charged per minute to get it out of the way.

They’ve already said they want to eliminate all ice vehicle in the future. What do you mean diversification?

I see, so according to you it’s as much of a hassle and time consuming getting fuel as it is getting your EV charged.

You think anyone buys that?

Well its right for them..

While those folks sit around for hours waiting for their cars to charge they are likely to spend money at walmart.

If you are implying they got it right, from an “EV is the future” perspective....

Yeah, not so much.

LOL, it won’t be minority groups, it’ll be all the “get of my lawn” types around here that end up doing it, and you know as well as I do that they love to prosecute old white straight men.

It’s a smart move, to (try to) attract more upscale shoppers.

I don't know any "upscale shoppers" who shop at Walmart or Sam's Club and I highly doubt that more EV parking spots will change the demographics. Just more Woke crappola.

Charge Finder

Looks like all of the charging stations near us are at $0.37, at least for Tesla style chargers.

A Wal-Mart down the road has three types of chargers. The slow one is 50kW, and is priced at $0.19. They also have 150kW and 350kW chargers, both at $0.37.

Finding a 350kW charging station would make me drive to the Wal-Mart if I needed a charge.

As you said, most EVs come with some free charging, and discount cards are available at the website.

Looks like you have a sane situation, between the EV and solar at home.

EVs are a blast to drive, now go back in your cellar and yell at your TV.

Here in Texas it’s of course hot, shade is appreciated. Late last week was fueling up at a gas station (to be fair not busy) that has a “Subway” type sandwich place in it. Watched a guy drive up by pumps in shade get out of car then woman drives up does same thing they lock cars an go inside for a meal. No thought that they were taking up pump space.

“ Until thieves steal the cables for copper...................”

Just look at how both Walmart employees and customers treat their shopping carts! Another stupid idea by WalMart.

EVs are a blast to drive

They better be at 60K per car. Also how much if a blast is it when it needs to recharge at 200 miles? NOT MUCH OF A ROAD TRIP CAR.

Think about the people you saw driving in cars alone with masks on. Think about that state of mind driving an electric car. Goes into complete emotional breakdown if EV is not plugged in. It’s down to 99.5%!!

Try $40k and more than 300 miles per trip unless I’m goofing around doing 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. I fly when I go long distances and I still have an ICE care for those rare occasion as when the Tesla and the plane don’t cut it.

My Mustang does 0-60 in 5 seconds and can be recharged in 5 minutes.

I hope that even the biggest Wal-Mart haters will be willing to admit that they got it right this time.

Given the time it takes to recharge an EV, you're likely going to be waiting in the EV line till the EV owner finishes their shopping and returns to their vehicle.....

And the results aren't going to be friendly.

Not finding a charger isn’t why people don’t buy such a stupid vehicle.

“EVs are a blast to drive”

What were you driving before that, a 3 cylinder Geo Metro?
