A father is being accused of taking things too far after he aggressively confronted his daughter's new boyfriend.
The teen girl’s mother, Christy Kelly, retold the entire incident on her Twitter account, where she praised her husband for being an “old soul” and having traditional views. However, others criticized the parents for not only embarrassing their daughter but also upholding out-of-date customs on both virginity and a woman’s body. She bragged about her husband threatening to physically harm their daughter’s new boyfriend if he took her ‘chastity.’
In Kelly’s tweet, she shared that she and her husband had recently met their teenage daughter’s new boyfriend and the young man’s mother for the first time. Instead of having a regular first introduction, Kelly’s husband decided to make a statement to his daughter’s partner that didn’t seem to bode well with Kelly’s followers.
“My husband told the young man: you can call me Sir. I have 4 guns, my daughter’s chastity is important, and you’ll have to see me if you do anything to disturb it,” Kelly wrote. While the father’s message was disturbing for others to read, Kelly didn’t seem to have any problem with it and even bragged about marrying someone with traditional views like herself.

Perfectly fine. Good job, dad.
Excellent father! If the young man runs away, then he wasn’t the guy for her. If he’s scared but stays as per the rules, she may have found her future spouse, brave and respectful.
Expected behavior should be clear from the outset.
I think it depends on how it was said. I agree with the point that the father should make about expectations. I might have been a bit more subtle on the point of the guns by taking the laddie out to the range to shoot some rounds and show him that I can score 300/300, or something like that. I don’t think you have to mention that you’ll kill him if he dishonours the daughter when he can see that you can do exactly that.
But, overall, I definitely agree with having a talk with the boyfriend.
“Hey, you two young’uns go out and have yourself a good evening. Of course, y’all will have my daughter back home by 10pm. And don’tcha worry about ol’ me, I’ll be fine, just sitting here cleaning my guns.”
Exactly !
My daughter was in high school when she first brought a date home. I was sitting at the kitchen table, spun around and blasted starlings with the 12 gauge shotgun out the open door and reloaded, thinking nothing of it. Didn’t even get up from the chair.
It’s great living on a remote farm with no neighbors.
Never saw the guy again! She ended up marrying a wonderful guy who grew up on a dairy farm.
It was important to me that my children learned humility working on the farm, while at the same time be able to wear evening gowns and tuxes and fit in. A little embarassment scares away the phoney people.
I used to tell them “Nice to touch, nice to hold, you break it we mark it sold.”

What is the purpose of a test? To reveal hearts.
Realize you are being tested also.
God never tempts, but He test. Tempting and testing most often look the same in our eyes, what is the difference?
There it is.
Never talk about how many guns you own on social media, even if the number is bogus.
Sounds like a “look at me” idiot. He basically said his daughter cannot control herself. He humiliated the boy in front of two adult women. And tactically, he made the boy the forbidden fruit.
And what’s he gonna do? Check his daughters hymen? Commit homicide because two teens get carried away?
Makes a good country song, but in real life, he’s stupid. That of course assumes the mom didn’t just make it all up for attention. Might be a look at me family.
Her mistake was posting it publicly. If they have traditional values, they wouldn’t need others to weigh in.
Why would they calla teenagers boyfriend a “partner?”
I liked the British governor's house in Colonial Williamsburg. When you walk in, there is a huge display of weapons. Reminds all visitors of the power of the British Empire. Nothing needs to be said.
“Tradition is a set of solutions for which we have forgotten the problems. Throw away the solution and you get the problem back. Sometimes the problem has mutated or disappeared. Often it is still there as strong as it ever was.”
― Donald Kingsbury, Courtship Rite
The real wierdos are the ones that project. There are simply to many dumb people on this planet.
I agree. The world doesn’t need to know about these people’s posturing.
Also, why does the possibly fictional dad need four guns to scare off his hypothetical daughter’s boyfriend? Wouldn’t one be sufficient, if he knows how to shoot? Two at most: he only has two hands.
Only 4...really?🤔
