I love this movie. I’ve heard that none of the remakes have done it justice, except for the early BBC TV series.

Remakes seldom do. Normally, there’s no
comparison to the original - to verify, see
the latest version of ‘Rear Window’.

The movie was great and the book was even better.

The book was better than the movie. The movie was limited by the quality of the special effects back then. But in the 60s, they were good enough to get the point across.
Another John Wyndham book was the Midwich Cockoos. Made into the movie, “The Children of the Damned”.

I watched this in the theater when I was 11 and it scared me to death.

"The movie was limited by the quality of the special effects back then." True, if we are watching it today. But back then...it scared the crappola outta me (as an eleven year old).

Same with the skeleton fight scene in “Jason and the Argonauts.” That was SO scary!

The BBC series is much closer to the book. I’d also recommend the radio drama the BBC did (both on Youtube).
