South African President names 10 necessary components to achieve peace in Ukraine

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa named 10 main “components” of the African Union’s position on the Ukrainian-Russian war.

QUOTE: “The main component that we brought here is that this war must be resolved, peace must be negotiated through diplomatic means.”
DETAILS: The next component, according to the president, is the need to de-escalate the conflict. “Today, during our visit, we heard missile strikes. Such activity does not work well for peace. Therefore, we are talking about the need for de-escalation on both sides so that peace finds a way to come through and resolve the situation,” he said.
Ramaphosa went on to say that the sovereignty of states and peoples must be respected in accordance with the UN Charter.
Another component, he said, is the need for security guarantees for all countries.
The sixth component is that both countries must ensure the export of grain and fertilisers. The leader of South Africa noted that “one of the reasons for coming here was that Africa is also experiencing the negative consequences of this war. Our grain prices have increased, we also have a shortage of fertilisers, and their prices have increased.”
The seventh main element is humanitarian issues – humanitarian support for those who are victims of war, who suffer. “We support this humanitarian aid,” he said.
The eighth major component, the African leaders believe, is the mandatory exchange of prisoners, including the return of children.
The ninth component is the post-war reconstruction and assistance to victims of the war, the president stated.
Ramaphosa adds that the tenth component is “that during our discussions, President Zelenskyy said that we must go further, better interact with African countries”.
BACKGROUND:
On 16 June, a delegation from Africa including the leaders of South Africa, Egypt, Senegal, Uganda, Zambia and the Republic of Congo, arrived in Ukraine.
They want to act as peacemakers between Russia and Ukraine, and to agree on increasing the supply of grain and fertilisers from these two countries to Africa.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that peace negotiations with Russia are possible only after the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from occupied territories.

The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, uses terror tactics, strikes, and shells both military and civilian targets.
During the day, the Russian occupiers launched another missile attack on Kyiv region, using 6 X-47 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles and 6 Kalibr cruise missiles. The air defense forces and means of the Air Force and the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed all 12 missiles.
In addition, during the day, the enemy carried out 24 air strikes and fired about 35 times from multiple launch rocket systems. Unfortunately, in addition to the destruction of infrastructure, civilians suffered. The likelihood of missile and air strikes throughout Ukraine remains high.
The enemy continues to concentrate its main efforts in the Liman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Mariinka directions – 21 combat engagements took place over the last day.

President Volodymyr Zelensky invited African leaders to join the Global Peace Summit based on the Ukrainian peace formula.
He said this during a press conference with the leaders of South Africa, the Union of the Comoros, Egypt, Zambia, and Senegal in Kyiv, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
“I am grateful to the participants of our meeting for supporting the principle of territorial integrity of states and protection of nations from aggression. Zelensky emphasized that the proposals of leaders of different countries from different continents are very important for the basis, which should be built on the Ukrainian peace formula.
He added that he wants as many countries as possible to join the Global Peace Summit and organize it as soon as possible, but it is not easy.

Ukrainian soldiers repaired on Friday (June 16) a Russian infantry fighting vehicle captured in the eastern Donetsk region during a counteroffensive against Russia. The transmission and engine of the BMP-2 were deemed to be in very good condition, the latter appearing to have had only 26 hours of running time, according to Ihor, a 66-year-old soldier repairing it.
The vehicle was captured on Thursday (June 15), video released by Ukraine’s army showed, as Kyiv said it had regained control of over 100 square km (38 square miles) of territory. Brigadier-General Oleksii Hromov confirmed Russian troops that invaded in February 2022 had been forced out of seven settlements in the eastern region of Donetsk and in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia. The army has advanced by to 3 km (1.8 miles) near the village of Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia sector and by up to 7 km near a village south of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk sector, Hromov said.

“...we must remember that we do not have one Russia. We kind of have many layers of Russia. Different historical layers still influence the thinking of the Russians about how the Russians work today. If we start from that very first movement, that is, Slavic Russia.
Language and entity and Russianness were born there. Also the belief that all Slavic people, as it were, are one was created there. And the Russian people, the largest of the Slavic peoples, have the duty of keeping them all in check and protecting them.
When we go further in history. With the fall of Constantinople, the traditions of Eastern Rome were transferred to Moscow. Moscow uses the term “Third and Eternal Rome” for itself. The Russians are, as it were, followers of the Eastern Roman tradition. Religion, conservatism, and the relationship to authority came from there. It means that one does not challenge authority. Then came the great power of the Soviet Union and the Cold War. The power politics and the sphere of influence of Russia come from the Cold War era.
